Nate and Cassie have been friends for a long time. Nate has gone through a string of girlfriends, each one never amounting to anything serious. Cassie prefers to spend her nights on the couch with a book, and secretly lusting after her best friend, as he always turns to her to drown his sorrows after his relationships end.
Nate is sick of dating the same type of women and decides to do something crazy to stir up his life – he wants to drive from North Carolina to New York City for New Years eve. With only two days to make it, and with Cassie thinking this is the craziest plan ever, they hop in Nate’s care to make the eleven hour trip. Except his car won’t start. And this is just the beginning of their woes. But don’t fret – because true love blossoms.
This is a cute ‘best friends to lovers’ story, but also a very short one. I think it comes in around 80 pages. It ended on my Kindle at the 84% mark which made me frown. I wasn’t ready for it to end. I liked Nate and Cassie’s banter. Cassie has been lusting after Nate for ages, but never wanted to cross that friend line…but it is Nate who eventually pushes them in this one.
I think there is a nice build up to crossing into the romance line, and a good amount of worry and fret from Cassie. I just wanted to see them actually be a couple – like maybe see them drive back home together or go out on a regular date. The road trip was fun, but it wasn’t enough for me.
So cute fun story, but way too short.
