Feature: An Indecent Proposition by Stephanie Julian

January 6, 2014 by Mandi 2 Comments

Stephanie Julian is stopping by Smexy today to talk about her recent book, An Indecent Proposition.

Indecent Proposition 600

A little over a year ago, I started a little story called AN INDECENT PROPOSITION.

I’d gotten a call from Judi Fennell who asked if I wanted to be in an anthology with Cherrie Lynn, Olivia Cunning and Cari Quinn.

I’m no fool. I said yes.

Since I love writing ménage, that’s the framework I chose. And I wrote AN INDECENT PROPOSITION. The PART I came later, after I realized 18,000 words weren’t enough to tell the whole story. Jules, Erik and Keegan needed a lot more space.

One night is definitely not going to be enough with two hot, hunky guys who only want to give you pleasure.

So I told the next part of the story. And then I told a whole other story, OVER EXPOSED, which will be released by Berkley in July.

Then I returned to Jules, Erik and Keegan. I knew eventually I’d get to the happily-ever-after but the story was telling itself. I had no blueprint, no synopsis, when I started. It was the first time I truly was writing by the seat of my pants.

When I start a story, I almost always have a vague idea of where I’m going. I don’t write a 20-page outline or do complicated storyboards. I’ll maybe write a two-page synopsis and even then I probably won’t stick to it all the way to the end.

But when I start a story, I know my characters at that moment in time. I know what they’re thinking and how they’re feeling and I know what they want. And, luckily for me, they carry the story on their own.

I saw Erik first, plain as day. I knew what he looked like, what his scars looked like. I knew how he saw himself.

I’m a huge Dancing With the Stars fan and I was totally in love with J.R. Martinez, the former Army infantryman who was burned in Iraq. Yes, his scars are shocking. But once you get past that initial shock, you realize he’s that much more handsome for living through the ordeal and still being able to smile and live his life.

I knew Erik would eventually get to the point where he was unafraid to live his life but he needed help getting there. Luckily for Erik, he had his best friend, Keegan, to keep pushing him back into life. Keegan has his own guilt to carry because of the accident that left Erik scarred. Both of them are having trouble moving forward.

Then Erik sees Jules and they realize she’s the one they need. To bring Erik out of the shadows. To allow Keegan to be the man he’s meant to be. And for Jules to discover the loves of her life.

An Indecent Proposition

One woman. Two men. Half a million dollars. One night…

One night. That’s all Erik and Keegan want with Julianne. And they’ve come up with the perfect plan: Offer Julianne a half-million dollars. Julianne is in debt up to her eyeballs due to her mother’s illness. Five-hundred-thousand dollars would pay off her bills and give her a start on a new life. All she needs to do is have sex with a man she’s never met.

An explosion left Erik with scars, physical and psychological. Work is his only refuge. Until he sees Julianne through a surveillance camera. And he discovers a desire he thought had been burned out of him.

Keegan has watched his best friend retreat from the world for too long. If his desire for Julianne brings him back to life, Keegan will bring her to him, whatever it takes.

Julianne is young, adventurous and not afraid to take what she wants. And she wants these men.

But what happens when the night is over?

Well, that’s the best part of the story…
