This book has three stories, told by three different authors, but all take place over the same few days during a massive storm in Tucker’s Point, Maine. Overall I wish that the stories had been turned more into a cohesive novel or that the points of view overlapped more smoothly than they do here, but it is still a nice effort. Want to see three couples re-kindle things and get a second chance at love? Here’s your chance.
Heart Of The Storm by Shannon Stacey
Grade: C-
Brody Rollins is back in tiny Tucker’s Point, Maine, for the first time in five years, and now he can’t escape…from former neighbors, old regrets or maddening glimpses of his ex-fiancée.
The hero is a whiny little turd who ran away in the middle of the night years ago, and the heroine is the do-gooder town sweetheart who never left and never stopped loving him. While I loved the idea of them getting back together in this setting – stuck in a school gym during a storm emergency and helping the town – the romance side never worked for me.
SEEING RED by Jennifer Greene Grade: B+
Stranded at her grandfather’s seaside cottage, Whitney Carr prepares to face the blizzard alone. But unexpected help soon arrives—in the form of her secret high-school crush.
I can’t quite put it into words, but I loved this one. I’m a sucker for the gruff mountain man type –this one is even a star athlete who was injured and so he returned to small town life. This heroine was great too – she’s sweet, but also capable and smart and well prepared to spend some time walking down memory lane.
LAND’S END by Barbara Dunlop
Grade: C
Tessa Ambroise is desperate to ditch the charming, infuriating hotelier circling her late aunt’s century home like a vulture. But the snow piling up outside the mansion puts both their plans on hold.
This story was odd. The heroine dumps her fiancé because he is too perfect, and he (unused to losing and very much in love with her) decides to try and buy her home to turn it into a resort. It felt like the heroine was playing hard to get and kind of pouty, and that the hero in question was just kind of a clueless dude. I think the problem was too much going on and not enough space to fit it all in.
Overall this was a cute idea for a series of short stories, and I would recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of second-chance romance. All of these stories featured characters who are in love with each other, but for one reason or another are not currently together.
Overall grade: C+

Not sure about this one, especially if you really liked only one of the stories.
