Note: Even though this is The Coincidence #3, it is the first of two books for Luke & Violet (first two were Callie & Kayden, where Luke does play a small role)

I really enjoyed the first two books in this series featuring Callie and Kayden (friends of Violet and Luke). Both Callie and Kayden were so screwed up and there was angst over the top. Luke intrigued me from the start, and I have to say his book really lived up to my expectation. Luke and Violet each have mega issues (maybe even worse than Callie and Kayden!).

To break it down – Luke grew up with a mother who forced him to do things. I won’t say what those things are because it’s a mystery if you’ve read the previous books in this series. His father left and his sister committed suicide. As a college student, Luke is happy to be out of his mother’s house but he has a lot of things to deal with. He must be in control at all times. He is a diabetic alcoholic. He sleeps with a lot of random women and has anger issues. Sounds like good boyfriend material, yes? Violet’s initial impression of Luke.

“And you’re Luke Price. The stoically aloof and somewhat intense man-whore/football player who dorms it up with Kayden Owens.”

Violet may be even worse off. At the age of six, someone broke into her house and murdered her parents. Violet hid in the playroom and stayed in the house for twenty-four hours before calling for help. She briefly saw the man and woman who killed her parents and tried to give the police information, but they never caught them. Violet is then moved from foster parent to foster parent until right before eighteen she settled with a man who teaches her to sell drugs. Now Violet goes to the same college as Luke and they literally run into each other. They VERY slowly build up a friendship of sorts…but lots of drama is to come.

While Luke and Violet clash the entire book because they are both so untrustworthy, they have that shared fear of letting someone in. Violet is so closed off and skittish, but yet can act totally cool and blunt like nothing in the world is bothering her. She is a superb liar and actress and it takes most of the book for her to come to trust Luke. Her backstory is done well that you totally believe this is how she would really act. Luke is usually drunk and has such anger towards his horrible mother and a father that abandoned him that he can barely carry on a friendship too. They are both heading into a romantic friendship blind. It drew me in and I had a hard time putting this book down.

It’s almost like they are too messed up and you know horrible things are coming even if times between them are getting better. It’s massive train wreck and I couldn’t look away. I knew there was a book two coming out so I was expecting a cliffhanger ending and oh boy did we get one.

If you liked the feel of Callie & Kayden’s books, you will like this one too. Releases on Tuesday.

Yes – although Luke does have page time in previous books. But it would work just fine as a stand alone

K, I knew there was something wonky with the mom, but now I’m really worried. Like in a gross, oh my God sort of way. Damn.

It’s not gross – as in sexual abuse. It’s all just really sad.

I’m reading this next so I didn’t read your review but I am super happy that you liked this book. I was kind of hesitant since The Redemption of Callie & Kayden didn’t really feel like much was resolved and I was disappointed in that. But woo hoo, I’m sure I’m going to like this one now.

Were we introduced to Violet in the previous books? I can’t remember.

Violet was Callie’s roommate (which I had forgotten about).

Oh, okay. I think I vaguely remember her. Thanks. I’m probably going to start this one over the weekend.

I just finished reading this and OMG.. WHEN WILL THE NEXT BOOK BE OUT?!?! So good. My only issue was all the grammatical and spelling errors. But I couldn’t put it down because the story just draws you in.
