ATF agent Peter Lomax is a sweet, sexy, gruff man whose idea of romance is actually wearing a suit to his boyfriend’s art gallery. Possessive to the core, this used to cause problems for him until he met Carter Fleming.

Carter Fleming loves Peter with all his heart and wants a lifetime with him. When Carter receives word his family needs him, he isn’t sure if Peter loves him enough to move from Chicago to Kentucky and make a new life with him.

When Peter agrees to spend Christmas with Carter and his family in Colt, Kentucky, Carter’s only wish is that Peter loves him and his family enough to stay forever.

Where You Lead is a sweet and heartwarming romance contemporary short about two men whose relationship receives a jolt when one needs to move home to care for his ailing mother and father. Sexy and humorous, Calmes writes a full bodied love story in the relatively short page length. Two swoon worthy men whose chemistry warms the heart as it singes the pages learns about love, compromise, and family.

The book starts out with a glance at Peter and Carter’s first meeting (and some hot back alley sex) then cuts to six months later when Carter drops the bomb on Peter that he needs to move home and assumes Peter will move with him. This on the drive to Carter’s parents house. Peter has some issues with Carter’s assumptions and high handedness but they smooth it over pretty quickly though I could easily understand Peter’s anger. Carter was making decisions for both of them without even including Peter. We and Carter learn a valuable lesson in the advantages of communication.

Carter’s family is delightful and Calmes does well with presenting Carter’s mother’s illness. She doesn’t objectify the illness or use as a recognizable plot device. When Peter realizes the extent of Carter’s mother’s illness,  it’s a bittersweet moment that resonates with Peter as he sees Carter’s devotion to his parents and the joys of having a close knit family.

The ending gives the reader what they want as Peter learns that home is where the heart is and as long as he and Carter are together, everything else will fall into place.

A delightful story that only served to remind me why I love Mary Calmes’ romances so much.
