Interview with Elle Kennedy and Giveaway!

February 7, 2014 by Mandi 33 Comments

Elle Kennedy’s Out of Uniform series is a favorite of mine. With the last book of the series, As Hot as it Gets, releasing next week, Elle is here today to talk Navy SEALS and what is up next for her.

ellekennedyWho is Elle Kennedy? Give us the low down.

Oh gosh. I hate talking about myself! Well, Elle Kennedy is kinda nerdy, kinda quirky, and has a very dirty imagination. I’m a total hermit—I’d way rather stay at home watching movies or puttering around in my garden. I absolutely hate winter. I’m obsessed with my dog. And that’s about it.
As Hot as it Gets is your final Out of Uniform book. Why the decision to end the series? Will this book end this series with a bang, or should I say with a lot of banging? *wink*

I think this book definitely ends with a nice, satisfying bang! And the decision to end the series was a tough one. I love all the characters so, so much, but I think it was time for them to grow up, move on and enjoy their happily ever afters without getting dragged into bothersome threesomes all the time! But that doesn’t mean that a few of these sexy SEALs won’t show up again…maybe on a visit to the east coast…
as hot as it getsJackson is all southern charm and nice manners. That is until he is in the bedroom and then it’s his way or a spanking (or maybe both). What was your favorite thing about writing Jackson and Mia?

Just one?! I loved every single thing about this couple. Jackson has been my favorite character since I introduced him in Feeling Hot, and I’ve been dying to write his story for ages. But I was saving the best for last. If I did have to pick one thing about writing them, it would be the dialogue between the couple. Mia is hilarious, and Jackson is so effing polite—unless he’s talking about sex. Then he’s downright nasty.
All of your heroes in this series are proud, alpha and don’t lack in the confidence department. In this particular book, Mia is inexperienced in the bedroom and has to find that confidence. Jackson is very willing to help her discover this. Mia is also a single parent and is weighed down by responsibility. What inspired you to write her?

Hmmm. All I knew was that Jackson needed someone who’d let him be in control, so I sat down and thought about the kind of woman he would end up with. And I came up with Mia. She might not be confident in the bedroom, but she’s definitely confident in other areas of life, and when it comes to speaking her mind. I knew she had the perfect combination of strength and innocence for someone like Jackson.
What has been the highlight of this series for you? Any notable scenes or characters that have made a lasting impression?

Dylan, Dylan and Dylan. And Carson. I love these two characters so much, which you can probably tell seeing as how I forced their presence on readers in almost every book! Carson showed up a lot in the earlier novellas, and Dylan makes major appearances in the full-length books. As for favorite scenes…any scene where the boys are hanging out together and talking about nonsense.

What’s up next for you? Will we see anymore SEAL heroes from you?

You will definitely see more SEALs. In fact, a few of them pop up in As Hot as it Gets, so it’s going to be easy to figure out what I’m doing next once you meet the new boys! And my Killer Instincts series is still going strong—it offers another group of hot, gruff men with lots of action and sexy times. The male camaraderie in the KI series reminds me a lot of the OOU boys, which is probably why I have so much fun writing it. Midnight Pursuits, the 4th KI book, comes out in April, and the fifth one, Midnight Action, releases in the winter

I have such mixed feelings about this book! On one hand – so excited to read the next book in the series. On the other hand – noooooooo, this is the last book.

I admire Ms. Kennedy for knowing when to end the series. It takes guts to do it. I have thoroughly enjoyed all of the Out Of Uniform books.
