Jay Reynolds can’t help but have a crush on his very intense, serious boss Peter. When Jay gets assigned to Peter’s team for a new project, it means lots of extra hours at work, and more time to stare at the man he lusts after. Peter doesn’t act like he likes other men, so Jay just assumes he is straight. Peter is very business oriented and after correcting Jay a few times with the project, Jay goes from falling all over himself when he sees Peter to hating him. But one night after his friend gets into some trouble at a club, Peter shows up out of nowhere and helps Jay out. Jay is curious as to why Peter was in the gay district – and after they share a kiss, Jay realizes Peter may play for his team after all.
I went back and forth with this book, sometimes enjoying and sometimes a little done with the whole story. Jay is very…outgoing. He talks a lot, he is loud – all especially when nervous. Peter is very quiet, serious – more conservative. I like this set-up because it’s fun to have the more conservative dude finally give in and loosen up (loosen up his pants too *ahem*). But Jay himself – he got on my nerves sometimes. I actually think it was the way the author writes his dialogue. He came across a little more – immature in a sense. The way he talked just didn’t always flow for me. But pushing that aside, I liked the build-up of Jay and Peter’s relationship. There was nice tension.
Once they reach the point where the clothes start coming off, they stay off for most of the second half. It was hot and sexy, but there are a lot of sex scenes. I think I would have liked a little more time getting to know Peter and his family, rather than sex scene after sex scene. This is only told in Jay’s point of view, and we really don’t get to know Peter all that well. He is either off traveling for business or in Jay’s bedroom.
But – this story entertained me the entire time. It’s a quick read – and like I said, there is some nice tension and some hot sex scenes. It’s a pretty straight forward romance book.
