News from Mandi: I read The Will by Kristen Ashley – I meant to talk about it this week and forgot. So I’ll talk about it now. I liked it – the heroine talks very proper and structured – and I can see where that can annoy people. It didn’t bother me too much, as the hero finds it cute how she speaks. I really liked the overall story and how the relationship unfolds. The heroine is an assistant to a high-powered fashion photographer – as a result she is very fashion forward and put together. Her grandmother dies and leaves her a house – when she goes back for the funeral in the will it states that she wants the heroine to end up with the hero, a local strip club and gym owner. They start out as friends and it turns into romance. I enjoyed how the kids were written and the romance. It felt like more classic Kristen Ashley. Definitely recommend.
I also read Unfixable and Still Life with Strings this week – both are reviewed above.
Finally I read Flying by Megan Hart. She has written some of my all-time favorite books. But lately her stuff hasn’t worked so well for me. Flying was better than I was expecting. The heroine had something quite tragic happen in her past, and she is still dealing with grief. Her marriage falls apart as a result. To feel like she is in control of something, she flies to a random city once a month, puts on a wig and seduces someone at the airport bar. Anonymous sex fulfills her – until she meets a man named Matthew on one of these trips. He is different and she wants him to see the real her. At times I think the heroine acts very immature – and that bothered me. I get into it all in my review next week. I think I rated it a B-. And as a warning there is a HEA but it’s not super solid. We’ll talk next week ;) (oh and the sex is super hot in this one)
News for Tori: I’ve pretty much spent the week catching up on review books. My overwhelming love of MC romances put me behind. :) Speaking of MC romances…I just got a few in so hopefully I can talk about them next week. :P
Bloodshifted by Cassie Alexander. Happy to see that Bloodshifted brings back the action and humor of this dark noir urban fantasy that was curiously lacking in book four. My review will post in the July issue of RT Book Reviews Magazine.
Risky Game by Tracy Solheim. My first time reading this author, I truly enjoyed this humorous romantic contemporary that pairs a gorgeous football player with a brainy PhD student. Review to come.
Don’t Let Go by Sharla Lovelace is another new to me author that impressed me. A heartfelt and humorous second chance contemporary built around two older protagonists whose life choices come full circle in a small TX town. Review.
Phenomenal X by Michelle A Valentine. Book on in the Hard Knocks series, I jumped on this bandwagon even though I knew better. A disappointment across the board. Review.
Enlightened by Joanna Chambers. The last book in Ms. Chambers trilogy more than satisfies this reader with a romance that speaks to the most jaded of hearts. Review to come.
Rusty Nailed by Alice Clayton. Wallbanger and Nightie Girl are back in this followup to book one. Plenty of humor and smexy scenes keeps you laughing and sighing with happiness as Caroline and Simon work towards the next step of their relationship. My review will post in the July issue of RT Book Reviews Magazine.
Sixth Grave on the Edge by Darynda Jones. Grim Reaper and detective extraordinaire is back in the sixth installment of Jones’ dark comedy Charley Davidson series. Fast pacing and multiple subplots will keep you laughing out loud but the lack of advancement in certain areas causes some concern. Review to come.
I’m currently reading Bella Aurora’s Willing Captive and Carrie Lofty’s Blue Notes.
