10. I LOVE the National Spelling Bee. And it was fun to watch last night and see the reaction of my kids when they heard each word they had to spell. Congrats for co-champions Sriram and Ansum! Go be brilliant adults now!
9. Japan gets all the cool stuff, like Elephant Nose Ice Cream. I wonder if my local Dairy Queen would do this for me if I asked? I need it!!!
8. Speaking of ice cream – the only thing that could top Elephant Nose Ice Cream is BOOZY Elephant Nose Ice Cream. It’s summer. The kids are running around screaming and out of control. Why not have a boozy ice cream treat? Lucky Charms + Whiskey + a Snicker Doodle = a Happy Mama! (recipe)

5. Now that I caught up with Parks and Rec and the Mindy Project, my husband and I needed a new show to glom so we picked True Detective which just wrapped up on HBO. You guys. This show is so dark and intense and the opposite of what I’ve been watching lately. And while I’m not the biggest Matthew McConaughey fan, he is amazing in this show. Amazing. As is Woody Harrelson. If you haven’t watched it yet, we are streaming through HBO Go.
AND! Whether you’ve seen it or not, the last six minutes of the fourth episode is filmed in all one shot! No cutting or editing or anything. It’s amazing. You can see the clip here on youtube – be warned it’s VERY violent and nsfw language.

I lived on the island of Guam when I was 6 years old and I still remember the night my family was invited to dinner at a Guamanian family’s house. They brought out AVOCADO ICE CREAM and Mom gave me and my siblings the you-better-eat-it-and-keep-quiet-look. It was The Most Disgusting Thing to our young American taste buds. Haha, but I’d like to try it again now….especially with tequila in it!

If you are looking for good TV, run (do not walk) to ORPHAN BLACK. You can get it streaming on Amazon Prime or buy the season on iTunes (100% totally worth it). It’s on BBC America and around half way through the second season right now. It is amazing. The lead actress Tatiana Maslany is beyond phenomenal.
We are watching season two right now. I’m obsessed. How does she portray each character SO well??? I always forget I’m watching the same actress. So good.

I haven’t read a book in a week because I’m glomming all over The Good Wife. I bought the 1st season on iTunes so I could watch it during an upcoming RV trip next week. Except I watched the whole thing in four days so then I had to buy Amazon Prime and start watching the 2nd season. It’s not on Netflix!
It’s so amazing. Ohhh, Will. The legal dramas. I think I’ll go watch another Episode.
But Orphan Black? Holy cow, I might have to buy that one for my upcoming trip. We are leaving in 5 days. Eek!

Red by Kate SeRine is 1.99 right now. I had put it in my wish list after reading your review and when I saw the price drop I bought it. I proceeded to read it in a few hours and then buy and read the next two books in the series which were on sale at that time but no longer are.
I’m with you on how great McConaughey was in True Detective. I still don’t understand why he’s my best friend’s celebrity boyfriend but that leaves Jared Leto for me so I’m okay with it.
I also highly recommended Orphan Black as your next tv series. It was one where I stayed up way too late watching because I just had to see the next episode. I also liked The Americans and Masters of Sex but they didn’t have the same ‘must watch next episode’ effect on me that Orphan Black did.

Have you ever heard of, ‘The Goldbergs’? It’s a 30 minute sitcom that has become one of my favorite shows. It’s about a family living in the 1980’s and it’s so funny! Really takes me back to my childhood. Kinda like, ‘The Wonder Years”, but funny!!

If I could try chocolate covered bacon and chocolate covered potato chips (which should not taste as freakin’ delicious as they do), I’d be up to trying avocado tequila ice cream. I think I’d want it on the brownie like in the picture (if I’m eating avocado tequila ice cream, I’m going all out).

Humphry Slocombe in San Francisco makes Secret Breakfast ice cream (featuring cornflakes and bourbon). I haven’t tried it yet, but it’s their most popular flavor (and the recipe’s in their cookbook). I’d bet an ice cream place with a lot of Asian clientele might do avocado (since they often have exotic fruit flavors), and I’ve seen an avocado smoothie or two. It’s pretty mild flesh, so it’d probably be rich-tasting but not too weird otherwise…
I’m going to try it in a few weeks – I’ll report back.
