Smexy’s Top Ten
News From Tori: It’s been a looonnngggg boooorrriiinnngggg weeeeekkkkkkk. :P
Scare Crow (Crow’s Row, #2) by Julie Hockley-This intense NA thriller picks up right where book one left off and takes readers on a wild ride filled with lies, betrayal and deception. A dark romance that will leave you reeling when you see the results of one woman‘s vendetta. Advice-read Crow’s Row first. These are not standalones.
Hard Rock Remix (Book, #2) by Ava Lore– Bad boy rocker Carter finds love when he rescues a young woman whose running from a fundamentalist cult. Sexy and sweet, Lore does a fab job of balancing the romance against the conflict.
Hard Rock Improv (Book, #3) by Ava Lore– MANNY!! Sexy drummer Manny finds love when he invites a band member’s sister to Hawaii with him. Dark then the first 2 books, the conflict rises slowly as our H/h indulge in some serious erotic play on the island.
Fangs of Anarchy (Killing the Alpha, #1) by Dakota Cassidy– Fantastic start to what looks to be an action packed, sexy, and funny PNR.
Easy (Burnout, #4) by Dahlia West-I enjoyed this one though there was a part of me that wouldn’t had been sad if the heroine had found love with someone other than the hero. Easy was a douche. A self pitying jerk and he treated Daisy like crap. I commend West for not writing Daisy as a victim and instead making her strong and funny. While the romance was okay, I found I actually enjoyed watching Daisy make a life for herself in town and her interactions with everyone the most.
Breakable by Tammara Webber-Breakable is a bittersweet look at family, grief, and learning to forgive. It was lovely to see how Lucas viewed his relationship with Jackie and the insecurities he had concerning falling in love and moving beyond his self imposed isolation. Though reading Easy shows us they end on a HFN, reading their story from another POV was enlightening and entertaining.
A Husband’s Regret (Unwanted, #2) by Natasha Anders-An enjoyable angst filled rom com about a wife and husband who must let go of their anger and pain in order to heal from the past. Though the book was slow in some areas and seemed to spin it’s wheels, the emotional makeup of the H/h is extremely well done.
Dominic (Slater Brothers, #1) L.A. Casey-A terrible anti romance YA that presents the premise that emotional abuse, slut shaming, and bullying is just another way to say I love you.
Imperfectly (Dante’s Nine MC, #2) by L.A. Casey-I enjoyed Leo- the hero- but found the other characters annoying and under developed. The conflict built at a good pace but the reveal fell flat.
I’m still trying to read Banishing the Dark by Jenn Bennett and Born of Stone by Missy Jane.
News From Sheena: What a week! It started with my return from an epic couples mini vacation to Deep Creek, MD and culminates with me finding a new author to (stalk) follow! Why hello there Valerie Bowman….
My week was filled with some re-reads and new names. I started the week with my obligatory favorite scene reads where I browse my Nook and gorge on all the sexy yummy stuff I’ve bookmarked because it was just that damn interesting. Said perusal inspired me to completely re-read Razer’s Ride and then Viper’s Run by Jamie Begley. Bossy Bikers and fun heroines= my idea of a good time!!
I thoroughly enjoyed Valerie Bowman’s The Unexpected Duchess-( review to come). This was just such a friggin delightful historical romance and it hit all the right notes for me. Think a cheeky Scarlett O’hara, Taming of the Shrewish kind of romance but add DELIGHT and you will almost understand why I thought this book was so enjoyable. I also read Wrecked by Priscilla West, which introduced us to a pair of young lovers who have live changing decisions to make once utter tragedy strikes. I didn’t like it initially and it too considerable work to push through and complete it, but towards the last quarter or so of the book, things get real and my tears were a-flowing.
I also finished an ARC of Burn, Callie Hart’s upcoming book #3 in her Blood & Roses series. Burn features Salone (one of my fav heroines) and her…partner Zeth, who is all things big, bad and dominant. This is an S&M romance that has as much action as it has kink. Review to come next week.
I had such fun with my biker books, S&M action and surprising Duchesses that I am pausing a beat before I get into Adrienne Basso’s, Bride of a Scottish Warrior. It will be likely be my Saturday night read..
