Top Ten Reasons to read Devil’s Game by Joanna Wylde

Blurb: Liam “Hunter” Blake hates the Reapers MC. Born and raised a Devil’s Jack, he knows his duty. He’ll defend his club from their oldest enemies—the Reapers—using whatever weapons he can find. But why use force when the Reapers’ president has a daughter who’s alone and vulnerable? Hunter has wanted her from the minute he saw her, and now he has an excuse to take her.

Em has lived her entire life in the shadow of the Reapers. Her overprotective father, Picnic, is the club’s president. The last time she had a boyfriend, Picnic shot him. Now the men in her life are far more interested in keeping her daddy happy than showing her a good time. Then she meets a handsome stranger—a man who isn’t afraid to treat her like a real woman. One who isn’t afraid of her father. His name is Liam, and he’s The One.

Or so she thinks.

The Top Ten Reasons you should read this book

**Please be aware the language below is very explicit**

10.  Let’s get a good picture of Liam aka Hunter, member of the Devil’s Jack Motorcycle Club, which is operating on a very fragile truce with The Reaper’s (our heroine, Em, is the Reaper’s president’s daughter. Uh oh).

Liam wore ratty jeans that hung low on his hips, the top button loose and the second in clear danger. No shirt, and his dark brown hair had that sloppy, messy thing going for it. His face was beautiful, almost pretty. Hell, if he didn’t have all those tattoos running across his shoulder and down his arm, he could’ve been in a boy band.

Except nobody in a boy band ever had muscles like those.

He needed a shave, I decided. My eyes dropped back down to his jeans, and I coudn’t help but notice a pretty good bulge down there.

9. From the start, Liam is such a gentleman and tells Em the truth – well, the truth about how horny he is. He MAY have left out the part of the truth where he is supposed to kidnap her to hold as leverage over the Reaper’s until some club business is taken care of. Silly details! But let’s get back to the sex.

Liam groaned, then let me go abruptly. He lifted me by my hips and set me down on the bench next to him.

“Are we doing this?” he asked, his voice tight and tense.

I looked at him blankly. My clit wanted to know why we’d stopped, because she was not a happy camper about it. Neither were the girls up top. Liam took a deep, ragged breath, eyes intense.

“Are we having sex?” he asked bluntly. “Because if we aren’t, I need to go jerk off. Not trying to pressure you, Em, but it’s the fuckin’ truth.”

8. Then Em is kidnapped (and let’s just say daddy is NOT happy.) While kidnapped, even though she hates Liam for using her, there is still chemistry between them – these darn Motorcycle Guys and their chemistry! So we have captivity (consensual) make-out sessions. Hot.

I was going to come, right here, right now, just from the feel of his cock rubbing me through the fabric, and I gave a moan of something between horror and incredible, terrible need.

“Please,” I whispered as my leg muscles quivered. “Oh, shit…”

Hunter bared his teeth at me in what I suppose could be called a smile. But he wasn’t smiling. He looked like he wanted to eat me and I felt fear because I knew I’d let him.

7. One could say, Liam MAY like to get laid.

“Tell me the truth, Liam. Was there ever anything real between us?”

I should tell her it was all real. Tell her it was love at first sight, that we were Romeo and Juliet and I’d defy my club to be her one and only.

[…]

“Not sure I know what real is,” I said. “But I don’t believe in love, babe. I believe in gettin’ laid.”

“That’s the saddest thing I’ve ever heard.”

I shrugged, feeling almost philosophical about the situation. There’s a certain freedom in being totally screwed – and that was definitely what this was shaping up to be. Clusterfuck all around.

“Well, I do know I’ve got come all over my pants, and that’s not something that happens every day,” I told her. “You’re fucking hot, babe. No matter what other stories you tell yourself, don’t doubt it for a minute. I can’t remember the last time I blew like that. Not sure what it means, but that part’s sure as shit real.”

(Remember folks, the bigger the load blown, the more real your relationship is.)

6. If you can’t guess, Liam is a dirty fucker. While Em sleeps (still in captivity – I know, I know) he has naughty thoughts about her…

She rolled onto her stomach, kicking off the covers. One leg was cocked to the side, which curved her ass perfectly, nicely set off by the fact that her low-rise jeans didn’t quite cover the top of a red thong.

And there, right in the center of her back, was a fuckin’ tramp stamp.

I looked closer, trying to figure out what the hell it might be. Some kind of Chinese symbol surrounded by angel wings. Pretty goddamn awful. Cliche as shit.

I loved it.

It made me think of every porno I’d ever watched, and because I’m an evil bastard my dick got so hard I felt my heartbeat pulse through it. I wanted to pull off those jeans and fuck her pussy, then hit her ass. I’d finish up blowing my wad right in the center of that tat.

Shit.

Yeah. She wouldn’t be down for that.

(damn it, Liam is a classy romantic fucker)

5. This book isn’t all sex (don’t worry more is coming). Em is pretty bad ass. She may be the ‘good’ sister who does what her dad tells her and tries to stay out of club business, but I love her transformation in this book. She comes into her own. She gets a backbone. She respects her father yet fights for independence. Well done Em. Oh – and she also..chews her way to freedom.

I pushed off the stairwell wall with my feet, sliding across the wooden floor toward Skid like a missile, hoping to hell he wouldn’t actually shoot. My hands caught his ankle, shoving up his pant leg so I could lock my jaws around his flesh.

“Fuck!” he yelled as my teeth sank in. “You fucking cunt!”

I ignored him, biting down harder. He started kicking at me, and I held on tight, sliding back and forth across the floor as he thrashed his leg. I heard the gun cock but I ignored it.

(Bad. Ass.)

4. Picnic, Em’s 42  forty-two year old father is a total man-slut (he is lonely since his wife died, okay?!) and his book is next. I can’t wait. You get a verra nice teaser at the end of the book of who is heroine will be. But before that, we get to see the many, many women that Picnic brings home. Some are former classmates of Em, to her total embarrassment. Like when she meets a girl the morning after a Halloween party.

“Do I know you from somewhere?” she asked, and I bit back a sigh. At least I wasn’t the only one with a shitty memory.

“We went to school together,” I said. Unfortunately, you fucked my dad last night, so I thought I’d make you breakfast. Consider it your consolation prize.”

[…]

She looked at me with big, post-party raccoon eyes. That’s when I noticed her “costume.” It was super short, super tight little dress that had something weird and orange on the front. There was a fluff of green covering each boob.

“What the hell is that?” I asked. “I mean, what are you supposed to be dressed like?”

“I’m a sexy carrot.”

I looked at Dad and shook my head slowly. He wouldn’t meet my eyes.

3. Fine, fine, back to the smex. Phone smex that is.

“I’m doing it right now,” she said. “What about you?”

“I’ve got my cock out and I’m jerking off while I listen to your voice,”I told her bluntly. “My balls are so fucking tight they feel like they’re in a vise, and I keep imagining how hot and slick you’d be around me right now.”

“Oh,” she whispered. Her breath caught again. “You’re better than my vibrator, you know that?”

2. And this sex…

“That’s fucking hot,” Hunter said, looking up at my face with a smile that literally took my breath away. “I think you should have to touch yourself every time we’re alone together, even if we’re just watching a movie or something.”

“That might get awkward,” I murmured, trying not to giggle.

“I don’t care,” he said, his tone urgent. “Fuck awkward. I want this.”

1. And we’ll end with the classiest of all….alley sex.

Instead, he slammed home and I felt it all the way to the back of my throat. I cried out again, then leaned forward and bit the side of his neck. His cock jerked inside me as he groaned. Then he started moving.

I don’t know even know how to describe what I felt. Hunter didn’t hold back at all, nothing. I took all of him and I knew I’d be sore as hell in the morning, but I didn’t give a shit. The stretch of his cock deep inside, the pain of his fingers digging into my ass cheeks?

I loved it.

And hey, I loved this book. I actually love all three books in this series (maybe book two with Ruger being my favorite). It’s a bit more gritty and less moral and that’s fine by me. I didn’t love Em’s sister, she felt too abrasive and annoying, but otherwise I enjoyed everyone else (even Skid..I have a thing for Skid y’all). Can  not wait for Picnic’s book due out this fall. I give this one a strong B.

You didn’t like Kit? I didn’t really find her abrasive and her pushiness didn’t bother me because I think I gave her slack for her age and because it felt tinged with sisterly affection.

I loved this book. Want to reread already.

If she gets her own book, I’ll probably love her. Just need to warm up to her more.

I had such a problem with book 1, but . . . I’m tempted. I’ve heard from a few readers that didn’t like 1, but loved this one, and I have to admit, with all that hot smex you just shared . . . *sigh* Alright, I’ll give this series another shot. :)

    Enjoy,

I totally enjoyed Em and Hunter. Wylde kept Em’s sweet girl innocence that we caught glimpses of in the first two books (even though she’s seen plenty!) and matured her in a very true to character way.
Reaper’s Property and Reaper’s Legacy are still my favorites, though. Would I ever put up with the likes of Horse or Ruger? Hell, no. And at times I couldn’t believe I was still rooting for those jackasses. But I gotta say, in my little fantasy world…those guys are caveman hot. lol

I really need to read this series. I recently read Unbreakable and I thought that was a little too over the top for me as for language and the story being very choppy but I do want to read about more motorcycle men.

    Thanks for the awesome list!

Gah! So good! JUST finished it and am now dying for Picnic’s story!!!!
I loved Liam and Em. I love how strong Em turned out to be. Sophie and Ruger frustrated me a lot in the last book. So it was nice to be able to totally root for this couple.
I’m going to reread the series as I’m just not ready to move on haha. Maybe I’ll like Ruger more the second time around….
