If you come back, I won’t be able to control myself next time.

Oh giiiirl. You better go back, stat! Our hero Gage is a former MMA fighter, now a club owner and occassional bouncer. The heroine jokes at one point that he must be fifty years old because he is so serious and dour, but really he is thirty. He scowls a lot because he helped his brother out of trouble, which just gave him more trouble. His brother got messed up with drugs and the only way to extricate him from the drug boss, was to promise this boss that Gage would underground fight for him for ten matches. With only three left, he can’t wait to be done.

One night at his club, he sees a very pretty girl giving him the eyes. On a break in the back alley, they run into each other. She is very forward…and Gage is very into her. But he doesn’t do relationships and she looks so young and innocent, he doesn’t want to sully her. But Sykler is persistant:

“Go back inside,” he repeated.

“Why? You don’t like talking to me?” Hands planted on her slim hips, she moved closer, a pensive look on her face.

He shrugged. “I don’t like talking,period.”

“Huh. So what do you like to do?”

Gage met her eyes in another long, deliberate stare. Leaving no question as to what he enjoyed doing.

She visibly swallowed. And then she startled the hell out of him.

“So maybe that’s what we should do.”

A laugh rumbled out of his chest. “You’re playing with fire, baby.”

Syler is finishing up her masters in psychology. She admits she is pretty much a good girl – she prefers watching Top Chef marathons and doesn’t go out all that much. But she wants excitement and stuff happening in her life – so when she sees Gage, she goes for it. I liked that about her. Unfortunately, there is a security camera in the back alley, and they are caught making out.

“I’m kind of surprised you wimped out at the the thought of getting busy in front of a camera.”

He clenched his teeth. “I didn’t wimp out.”

“Really? Are we having sex right now?” Another beat. “Nope, I didn’t think so.”

She finally straightened her dress, much to his overwhelming relief. Those red panties had come dangerously close to stealing his common sense again.

Gage sighed. “You really should go.”

“Oh, I will. The moment’s over anyway.”

Don’t worry! They meet up again *wink*

These two are hot in the bedroom. And while Gage professes it’s only going to be sex and nothing else, the nothing else turns into a relationship. We see him fight, and deal with his brother and the drug boss. Conflict and action are brought in with that. This is a pretty quick novella that gives the reader a  beliveable HEA. It would have been nice to see Gage and Skyler hang out more and have more time together, but I didn’t feel like their romance was rushed or forced. Skyler has good girlfriends she can confide in and Gage has two other friends he owns the club with – I’d love to get their story. Hope we get more in this series.

Sounds like a good one. I really enjoy Elle Kennedy’s books. She’s got an easy voice that makes you sink into the story. Lots of fun and hotness, too.
