Afternoon Delight is a sensual erotic romance that starts out as a flirty sexual interlude only to build into something more that shocks both parties. Set in the bustling city of Manhattan, Calhoun introduces us to two individuals whose attraction leads to a lesson in control and learning to appreciate the slow anticipation of living life day to day.
A tantalizing short story (only 166 pages) with hidden depths laced with humor, sensuality, and a sweet emotional undertone. Smooth flowing with engaging characters and a rich storyline that engages the readers form the first page. The first half is extremely sexual Sarah slowly seduces Tim by challenging him sexually. Sarah wants to show Tim that the build and anticipation of the moment is so much better than merely rushing towards fulfillment.
“You’re really not going to have sex with me, are you?”
“No. We had a bet, which you lost. If you want to leave now, I understand.”
“What would I stay for?”“Mushrooms sautéed in white wine and garlic over polenta, fresh spring greens with pears and feta, and individual chocolate lava cakes with homemade whipped cream and raspberries for dessert.”
“That’s it?”
“If you’re a masochist, you can watch me get myself off after we eat. I was absolutely desperate for an orgasm before you and your wicked mouth started to have your way with me.”
“Deal,” “You have to take your clothes off. And I get to talk.”

Sarah was a fun character. She’s sexy, funny, and completely comfortable with every aspect of her life. She’s a living breathing version of the book, ‘Don’t Sweat The Small Stuff’. A pivotal point in her past taught her that life is a vast never ending buffet that should be savored and enjoyed. She enjoys life as it comes; always looking for new experiences but not demanding constant entertainment. Tim is actually a lot like Sarah used to be. He is confident and sexy with a healthy ego but he speeds through life as if the devil himself is on his heels.
Their interactions are quite naughty and fun. Sarah and Tim are well matched. Heavy chemistry and thick sexual tension gets your heart pumping as these two begin on a whim and slowly emerge as much more. They have a strong sexual connection that is apparent from page one. Sarah and Tim both have attractive dominant streaks that allows them to switch control- leading to some very hot scenes with explicit detailing and a strong dose of fun. I loved that neither of them play mind games or were ashamed of their sexual appetites. Neither of them had any problems telling each other what they wanted or getting down and dirty to get it.
As their relationship progresses and their afternoons of delight turn into something more, a fundamental change occurs. It’s no longer just an affair that garners them both intense sexual release from the demands of their lives. They move beyond into something entirely different which scares Tim to death. Calhoun does a wonderful job of using supporting characters and a tense subplot to break through Tim’s shell and force him to be honest with Sarah and himself. I had only two small issues with the story. One, I would have enjoyed seeing more of them as an acknowledged couple. And two, the games Sarah played in the beginning rubbed me a little the wrong way. I felt she instigated the affair and set the boundaries, but then became upset when Tim couldn’t or wouldn’t cross them. Regardless, Calhoun’s Afternoon Delight is sure delight her fans.
