Becky and Mark meet in Vegas at a conference and have one night of amazing sex. The next morning, Becky is happy and satisfied and leaves to go back home to New York, expecting to never see Mark again. But unknown to her, Mark has been recruited by Becky’s boss to help with a new ad campaign for a yogurt company. Shocked to see Mark again, Becky doesn’t have too much time to be surprised, as her boss decides to pit Mark against Becky – they get to pick their own teams and compete to see who can win the contract.
From here these two battle it out and end up working together to make the best presentation possible. Unfortunately, this book did not work for me. It’s hard to say why. There wasn’t one particular scene or character that made me angry. Honestly, I didn’t feel much at all as I read this, which could be worse than getting passionately upset over something. I think it’s a combination of a lot of things. First, lack of details in the story. The story moves along at a decent pace, but we don’t dive deep into any character or any scene. Mark and Becky are just there on the page. The battle between Mark and Becky trying to win the contest moves very fast, and details are glossed over, racing to the finish.
Second, why are Mark and Becky attracted to each other? We see them make out and be intimate, but I never felt intimacy between them. Sometimes I felt as if their dialogue was off, and sometimes I just felt they lacked chemistry. I needed to see more reasons that they would want to be together. They each have a back story and family issues that are brought up, and again, those needed more depth as well.
Finally, there is something that happened in Becky’s past that is brought up again towards the end of the book and I just felt it was handled poorly. I don’t want to say what it is for spoiler purposes, but I was not a fan of how it all played out.
A miss for me.
