So there I was. Book in hand. Waiting to be reduced to Sheena-Putty, melted by the heat of the passion that would surely leap from the pages of Lauren Blakely’s Melt for Him…and well, let’s just say a puddle I did not make. I assure you I sit here in my fully solid form. I didn’t melt a smidge! If the title is going to be Melt for Him, dammit I fully expect to liquefy!
*belabored breath*
This missed the mark for me. It was boring and felt clunky and “romance-novel-paint-by-color-ish.” Say, have you ever read a book and it feels like a nauseatingly jerky cadence of writing, for example: he kissed her and she said “wait, no stop, we can’t do this”, and he didn’t stop and she said “but why now” and he said “I love you now take my big cock and touch my manly rippling muscles” and then she said “okay,” then he said YOU ARE MINE and then she said “take me baby” then he touched her mound…and she said “ohhh” and came in a rush and then he kissed her and then she said…. Seriously. This kind of writing style is so distracting, I could barely pay attention to the book I was so distracted by this chosen style of delivery. Melt for Him left absolutely no impression on me but I will endeavor to share what I thought of it.
Brecker Thomas is a smoking hot Fireman captain who moonlights as a bar owner. Right away he meets the lovely, Megan Jansen who thinks she is only after a little bit of fun but gets more than she bargained for when it comes to the brooding Brecker. It gets worse better. Brecker Thomas is ALSO *drum roll* her brother’s best friend. *cue crescendo of groans* Yes. Once again we have the broody “alpha” male who whimps out at the notion of dating his friend’s sister. Spoiler alert. They all get the fuck over themselves and Megan’s brother Travis accepts their union, Brecker stops being a pussy and Megan though skittish about being with a man with such a dangerous job, gives him a true shot.
An unimpressive and weak plot acted as the frame-work for their sexual encounters. I do not mind a sexy book. I adore a sexy novel. My kink is legendary, but not at the expense of a legitimate and interesting plot. Hell, the biggest obstacle was Travis’ acceptance and Megan’s decision to stay and live in her hometown community to be with Brecker.
Largely uneventful, they did manage to connect in the bedroom:
“He slid his hand between her legs, feeling the heat of her desire through her shorts. She gasped the second he made contact; she was so ready to have him inside her.
Do you have any idea how much I want to be inside you? She nodded against him
“As much as I want you there,” she answered quickly.
I want to bury myself inside you right now. I want to feel you gripping me.” he whispered huskily against her neck.”
“I want that…All of it. I want fucking and kissing,” she said, her breathing turning more erratic.”
Yeah. My breathing was erratic too….but not from overwhelming passion, it was erratic from the unbridled desire that something, anything remotely interesting happen in this novel. So much time was spent wondering what Travis thought, and Brecker wanting to be on the up and up with his buddy, and Geezus did Travis almost catch us again- and Megan guarding herself against falling for Brecker – oh and and surprise Megan is a fantastic artist and tattoo apprentice, who with his support, opens her own little tattoo parlor and they all get tatted up and live happily ever.
Needless to say I felt zero connection to Megan, I could care less about the weighty heft of Brecker’s impressive cock and Travis needed his own life in the worst way. I mean as the sole character that made me feel anything, I would not have minded a few chapters dedicated to what exactly went on in his head while his sister and BFF were squirming about coming out to him as a legitimate couple.
Ugh. In any case, Book 1 in the series, Burn for Me, has rave reviews, maybe all the good stuff was used up, because to be book 2 of a series, Melt for Him sputters and stalls far too much for me to consider reading the next installment.
Grade: D

omg YES! That is exactly how I felt about the book and I couldn’t finish it. There was no plot in the story. This was my first book with Blakely and it made me weary of her. But now I’ve just started 21 Stolen Kisses and it’s MUCH better. Have any of you read it? Would love to read your review

Hi Maddyj thanks for the feedback! I will certainly look into giving 21 Stolen KisseS a try. I am still a little traumatized from Melt….
