Mitch and his twin brother Frederick are both alphas in the Blue Mountain Pack. Frederick is the actual leader, while Mitch is in the pack to support him. Mitch is gay and has been waiting for his mate for a long time. His brother recently found his mate, another alpha female, which leads to some head-butting, but overall love. Mitch really wants this for himself.
It becomes known that there is a shifter camping on Blue Mountain property without getting the permission of the alpha. Mitch goes to investigate, breathes in Simon’s scent and helllloooo mate! Unfortunately, Simon is terrified, they fight, and Simon gets dragged back to Mitch’s house. Mitch won’t let his mate go, and Simon, an Omega, just wants to mourn his dead mother and leave Blue Mountain territory.
We have a m/m alpha-omega love story. This is a decent shifter story, but on the sweet side. Sweet isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it kind of is when you are dealing with alphas. I like my alphas very fierce, and growly. Men of few words that borders on being as asshole but the author always redeems them. Mitch (and even his brother Frederick) are too emotional to be the tough alphas. They are on the sweeter side and I wish they would have had a more flippant attitude.
I don’t mind an insta-mate in paranormal romance. Mitch gets a sniff of Simon and his life is set. I did feel for Simon, who gets imprisoned basically in Mitch’s house. Simon thinks Mitch is feral and is out to harm him for some time. I kind of wanted Mitch to have a big sit down with him and explain the why and what of the situation. Simon and his mother were both Omegas, living without a pack and on the run for a long time. Simon craves the warmth of a pack and as Mitch calms down, Simon starts to realize he could have a life here.
Mitch makes Simon agree to stay for one month, so try to convince him this is where he belongs.
“Being mine doesn’t mean you’re a slave.”
Mitch raised his black-eyed gaze and looked at Simon hungrily. “It means you’re mine to touch. Mine to care for. Mine to protect. Mine to know.” He sighed. “You’re mine, and I hoped I’d learn about you by going through your belongings.”
Mitch really, really wants Simon to stay if you haven’t figured that out yet *wink*
Like I mentioned, I would have liked this more if Mitch and Frederick were more alpha acting. But it’s a sweet romance without much conflict that will appeal to some.
