Smexy’s Top Ten
News from Mandi: Dreamer’s Pool by Juliet Marillier was a really nice start to a fantasy series. Not too heavy on the fantasy aspects, we follow the adventures of Blackthorn, a healer, a Grim….her friend of sorts. They both escape prison to start the book. Blackthorn is forced to be a healer for the next seven years by the fey, but all she wants is revenge on the person who hurt her family. She is prickly, and stubborn and delightful to read about. Grim has secrets, some we have yet to learn. I really enjoyed the mystery in this too. Review to come.
I liked it so much I asked for another fantasy recommendation and many rec’d Master of Crows by Grace Draven. I’m a couple of chapters in and really enjoying – plan to finish it this weekend and review at Smexy soon.
Another fun read I had this week is Off the Map by Tamara Morgan. A novella, this one has a I hate you but I really love you vibe to start the book. Cute heroine who uses barbie ken doll as a voo doo doll – I laughed a lot. It releases this coming week – I also recommend the first in the series, In the Clear
I had some problems with 10 Rules to Sex Up a Blind Date by Heidi Rice. I didn’t really like the characters – it was all big boobs and big peen – which I normally would giggle about but this one felt…too immature maybe? Just didn’t do it for me. I’m not going to review it at Smexy.
I also DNF’d this week – Love Undercover by Nana Prah and Miss Congeniality by Marie Garner. Couldn’t get into either of them.
After Master of Crows I’m going to start Starstruck by LA Witt.
News from Tori: I didn’t get a lot of reading done this week. I’ve had a lot of errands to run and the early buying and eating of Halloween candy has left me feeling peckish. And bloated. :(
Beyond Possession by Kit Rocha–You can never go wrong with Kit Rocha and her erotic apocalyptic O’Kane series. This sexy steamy romance advances the arc and sets up the next full length novel. Review to come.
Light My Fire by G.A. Aiken–I laughed this entire book. Aiken extends and is beginning to narrow down the arc while expanding the world and the characters who live in it. Fans of this series will rejoice at the direction Aiken takes us. Review to come.
Cover Your Eyes by Mary Burton–A nice sedate mystery suspense that uses the past in order to solve a present day rash of murders. Though touted as a romance suspense, the romance is extremely low key. Review to come.
Better When He’s Bold by Jay Crownover–Crownover introduces us to the man who runs The Points underbelly and the woman who is destined to be his queen. A sexy, dark read with violent undertones and a well plotted storyline.
Darling Beast by Elizabeth Hoyt– I love the Beauty and the Beast trope and Hoyt sets it up well in her latest installment. A man declared insane fights to reclaim his life and win the hand of a sweet actress who has her own demons to battle. Very sweet and sexy.
Anguish by Bella Jewel–The 3rd book in Jewel’s Jokers Wrath MC series gives us Mack’s story. Brother to Joker’s president, Maddox, and a new single father, Mack needs a nanny pronto. Enter Jaylah. A young women with no childcare experience but plenty of trouble applies and gets the job. Funny and sexy with plenty of thrills, chills, and smexytimes. NEWSFLASH: Those who read Anguish will see more of Marcus in his own book- Til Death. I’m told this is a dualolgy and release 11/24. The blurb KILLS me. I’m all about the revenge. :P
Riot by Jamie Begley– MC romance is my crack and Begley is my dealer. In her newest MC series, we meet the President of the predators MC and the strong woman who brings him to his knees. Love, angst, and mayhem paint the way to true love.
Killer Queen by L.H. Cosway–If you loved Painted Faces then Killer Queen is for you. Cosway revisits Viv and Fred’s epic romance by offering readers their love story via Nicholas’s POV. An in depth look at Nicholas pre-Freda and insight into some of the decisions he made makes while with her makes this a must read for those who want to experience their journey again.
I’m currently reading M.L Brennan’s Tainted Blood.

Oh, I can’t wait to start reading Tainted Blood! Love me some Fort.
Picked up Prisoner based on Mandi’s review..and I am loving it.
Have a nice weekend! :)
Tori says
Fort is adorable and clueless as usual. I adore this “baby vamp.” lol
Kristi says
Killer Queen? OMG. I can’t decide if I should glom on it or freak out. I adored Painted Faces but I sometimes don’t like the additional POV books.. eek
Tori says
I’m not a huge fan of sequels that merely retell the same story. But this one goes above and beyond a simple retelling(at least it gave me).
