Last year I read the very charming The Lucky Charm so I was happy to try anther book from this author. While our hero Noah plays for the professional baseball team, The Pioneers (same team as in book one), I’d call this book a small town contemporary romance and not a sports romance. (baseball was a big focus in book one). Noah plays baseball, but last season a wild pitch to the head caused a bad concussion. Still suffering from headaches, his doctor has yet to clear him for the upcoming season. Besides this drama, he has had some off-field drama with a girl named Tabitha. A known manipulator of men, Noah fell for her, and then decided he needed to get far away. Now that some time has passed, he wants some closure with her, but doesn’t know where she is. So he tracks down Tabitha’s sister Maggie in the small town of Sand Point.

Maggie and Tabitha grew up in Sand Point, but both left to pursue careers. Tabitha couldn’t wait to get out of the small town, but after earning her culinary degree, Maggie decides to return home and open her own cafe. Tabitha has always looked down on this decision and her relationship with Maggie has been pretty non-existent the past few years. When Noah shows up and asks Maggie where Tabitha lives, Maggie wants nothing to do with this drama, no matter how sexy Noah is. Maggie eventually gives in and emails Tabitha, while Noah takes up residence at the local hotel to see if Tabitha will write back. During this time, Noah and Maggie are drawn to one another. Maggie’s love life is in full swing though – her best friend Calvin has just told her he is lonely and maybe they should date. Maggie firmly says no, but he starts to act jealous when Noah comes to town.

This story is super sweet. Both Maggie and Noah are very kind, gentle people. Maybe a little too sweet? Is that horrible to say? There really isn’t a lot that happens in this story, and I think I needed more conflict to keep me interested. Maggie has a very good head on her shoulders, is passionate about cooking and has no idea that Noah Fox is a baseball player. He likes this about her. You get the quick feeling that Maggie is the very sensible sister and Tabitha is the wild, crazy, leaves men to cry sister. While we don’t meet Tabitha until later in the book, her character intrigued me more than Maggie. Maggie is sweet and nice and falls very…sweeetly…in love with Noah. And Noah is all gentleman, and dealing with his concussion and falling in love with Maggie. It’s just all darn nice. I wanted one of them to get mad about something!

Tabitha brings in some conflict towards the end, but it felt more on the nice side too. So, yay for a nice romance story? But I needed something more to keep me engaged. I missed the baseball aspect too – I really enjoyed that in book one.
