A jaguar shifter with a dark secret, Kyter has spent his entire life running from his demons. When a tragedy takes him back to his pride’s village, he is set on a path of vengeance that will see him collide with the terrible ghosts of his past and a beautiful vision of his future.
Iolanthe deals in finding artifacts for discerning clients, but this time her client is one of the deadliest men in Hell and her mission has the highest stakes imaginable. Failure is not an option when your life is on the line, but things take a dangerous turn when she crosses paths with a handsome and mysterious male on the hunt for the same artifact—a male who declares she is his eternal mate.
Can Iolanthe resist Kyter’s wicked allure and find the artifact before he does? Can Kyter face his demons and win the heart of his fated female? Or will this deadly game of cat and mouse claim both of their lives?
Romantic, paranormal fantasy. Internally scarred shifter alpha male meets his match in spitfire, high spirited elf heroine who takes less than 0% of his bullshit. Sign me UP! This book was a great balance of romance and fantasy. I usually find if there is a strong urban fantasy theme, the romance and heat is secondary to barely perceptible. If the plot is good, I accept it and work through my beloved romantic notes being…well footnotes. But Felicity Heaton has done your girl a solid and allowed both the fantasy/paranormal and romance to thrive, neither in the way of the other and both working together to support a damn good story!
Kyter and Iolanthe (the names….lol took me a while to get over them) are fast adversaries. She a mercenary out to do her latest job- no time for funny business, let alone a drive by mating. Kyter disagrees. Hysterically! The manner in which he hunts his intended mate was relentless. Handsome, feral, sexy, feral, hot, did I mention feral? I am not ashamed to say I was entertained by Iolanthe’s resolve to not be tied down before she was ready, however, I was ready to give up the ghost midway through and let Kyter have AT IT. *fans self* Damn I’m a sucker for these feline men. That was so not a judgement upon myself- I am fine with my fixation and Kyter was a force to be reckoned with. He not only hit her with the full frontal sensual seduction, he was a thinking man who intrigued her on an intellectual level. It all works. so well. She was destined to be a goner!
“Iolanthe.” He murmured and broke away from her lips to feather kisses along her jaw, persuading her to tip her head back.
She loved the way he spoke her name, lacing it with a mixture of reverence and need, speaking it in a way no male had ever spoken it before. There was such hunger in it, such violent need and desperation. It was as if he was voicing her feelings, echoing them perfectly.
She clawed at his hair, tugging him and pinned her against the column, pressing every hard delicious inch of his body into hers. She shuddered and moaned, the steel length of his arousal between her thighs, rubbing against where she needed and ached for him, sending her out of her mind.”
Beyond being the object of my (and loathe as she is to admit it- Iolanthe’s) desire, Kyter is more than hot man candy on a shifter stick. Years ago, he endured cutting pain as he was made a pariah and ostracized by his pride due to having mixed Jaguar blood. This early rejection is what fuels his singular focus when it comes to winning Iolanthe’s heart and mating with her in truth. Even despite the danger they are both exposed to while hunting the ancient artifact. Neither willing to give in a freaking inch, the tension often gave way to some pretty funny comedy between the two.
Laughs and action and a strong romantic entanglement made Hunted by a Jaguar a delight to read. I did walk away with a few questions, but I believe they are primarily due to jumping into the series with both feet at novel # 4. I would have appreciated a little more back story, but if I had to choose, I always believe less is more when it comes to rehashing previous plots and character introductions. As it stands, the characters are diverse and each beg their own story to be told.
Great cast of characters. Hero and heroine were unique and almost mirrored one another, both strong and unyielding, however, masking a vulnerability that touched me often. The most romantically inclined fantasy novel I have had the pleasure to read and for that alone I tip my hat to Keaton who gets it, you don’t have to sacrifice a strong romance theme to still have a kick ass fantasy novel.
Duh! Talk about the best of both worlds!
