J.C. Daniels (aka Shiloh Walker) is stopping by Smexy today to talk about her latest release, Edged Blade and what it’s like to pick a title for the next book. Later today, May will have her review.
If my brain cooperates—and if Kit does—I think there will be three more books after EDGED BLADE.
I think I know what the titles will be for books 6 & 7, I think. I think. Book 5 is bothering me.
It’s all about secrets and stealth and for the past few days I’ve been playing name games in my head.
Things like…
Hidden Blade… eh, maybe.
Silent…nope, can’t do that one.
Quiet….thhhhhhhppppptttt
Stealthy??? NNNNnnnnnooooo… that just sounds stupid.
Then I go back and think about what the book is supposed to be about.
Hmmmm. Secrets. Stealth. Hiding.
Secret Blade.
Nah.
Hidden…nah.
FYI, there are reasons authors aren’t always the reasons to come up with their own titles. Sometimes, we can’t see the forest for the trees and trying to nail the overall concept of the book when we’re chasing the shiny happy ending—or the acceptable closure—is like trying to think of what you want for dinner next week when you haven’t even managed to make yourself eat breakfast today…oh, and it’s already two in the afternoon.
The good news is this: during the course of this blog post, I figured out the title for the fifth Kit Colbana book and I’ll share it with you now.
The next Kit book, due out in 2016, will be Shadowed Blade.
So…what do you think?
Read on for an excerpt and a chance to win either a Kindle Fire or a tea set and some of the loose leaf tea that Kit would drink…if she was real. ;)

He laughed and dropped down on my bed.
I frowned.
He lifted a brow. “Problem?”
“Damon’s coming over tonight.”
Now Justin grinned and laid back on the bed, linking his hands together behind his head and stretching out.
Sighing, I rubbed the back of my neck.
“Are you trying to make me hurt you?” I asked. “Because trust me, I’m frustrated enough to do you a lot of damage.”
Frustrated didn’t touch it.
My plans of inviting Damon back home after the Halloween Ball had fallen through and he’d spent the next few days dealing with some sort of clan politics. It turned out that the clan in northern Georgia seriously had business—the kind that came with a major B— that needed to be discussed with the Assembly and now that Matthew wasn’t allowed in the area, they were fumbling to come up with a plausible arrangement, because Amund wasn’t rescinding the ban. And nobody could make the millennia-old vampire rescind it.
All of it made my head spin. If I thought about it too long, I’d have a migraine. All I wanted was one night with my guy. One night.
Then, just when I was thinking I’d go join him at the Lair, I got the call from Nova.
It had taken almost a week of running leads down before I’d managed to find the woman Nova had seen in his vision and I almost hadn’t made it in time.
I hadn’t seen Damon in nearly two weeks.
I hadn’t had sex in so long, I didn’t even want to think about it.
And Justin was doing one thing guaranteed to make Damon’s brain shut down.
“You know, this is what happens when you hook up with a shifter, Kit,” Justin said, pushing up onto his elbows. His black T-shirt rode up, baring his flat belly. “The animal kicks in too easily, shuts down the brain. Now, me? If we were still together, I wouldn’t be all that worried if your bedroom smelled like another man.”
“That’s because you can’t scent another man in my bedroom, you asshole.”
He shrugged. Crossing his feet at the ankle, he said, “He knows we’re done. I just—hey!”
Justin glared at me from the floor.
I let go of his ankles and smiled.
“You were saying?”
He cocked his head. “Well, the view is nicer from down here.”

The last book tore my heart out. Have this waiting for me on my Kindle right now and hoping for some serious ongoing grovel on Damon’s part.

I like Shadowed Blade–it suggests secretiveness, without being overt. This series is on my TBR list and now I’m moving it way up the list. You’re killing me here! I need more time to read.

Love these books! Kit is awesome :) I would think coming up with titles is difficult, especially if you’re trying to keep a theme going.

Nice title for the next book. It sounds so mysterious and secretive. Why does Shadow have to be in past tense though? Shadow Blade could work too..

Love the cover!
