J.R. Ward Announces BDB Spin-off Series

February 10, 2015 by Mandi 19 Comments

What, what, what you say? Thanks to a post from Heroes and Heartbreakers, we just learned some exciting news.

JR Ward has just posted a thread at Goodreads that she is doing a BDB spin-off series. Hooray! She wants to go back to true PNR where there is a hero and a heroine and they fall in love – and get away from the 20 different storylines in current BDB books.

Highlights:

I described to her a new series, where the BDB training center is reopened to a new cast of recruits, and THE ORIGINAL BROTHERS teach these FNUGs wassup. In the process of the new recruits falling in love and getting into a sh*t ton of trouble, THE ORIGINAL BROTHERS could be shown with their shellans, their Brothers, their people in the mansion, in a more prominent way than I’m able to do in the BDB books.

Paperback, yo. Not hardcover. Traditional PNR, just like DARK LOVER was in the old days.

Sex. Lot of sex.

And this:

So… we have the first of the Black Dagger Legacy books, BLOOD KISS, coming out this December.

Now, let me say this: the ORIGINAL BROTHERS are still going to show up in the BDB books. Hell, yeah! And from time to time, a BDB book is going to be about them and their mate if there’s a big thing going on in their lives (think THE KING.) I am NOT taking a step away from the Brothers at all- if anything, I’m bringing them further to the forefront with the Black Dagger Legacy books.

But I miss my boys :( I want to show you where they’re at. I want to take you back to them- in their new roles as… well, role models and teachers.

And this:

Anywho, the first Brother who’s up?

A certain cop. From Boston. Who’s going to have his hands full with the new recruits- two of whom you’ll meet in THE SHADOWS.

A cover reveal is coming soon- but I couldn’t sit on BLOOD KISS any longer!!!!

Does this excite you? I think many will be happy that she is focusing on just one main couple per book – and we get to stay in the BDB world. And we get a book this year!! I’m ready.

I would come back for this. I got SO TIRED of the 39374902 plot details and it kept drifting away from the one romance and more into general world/complications/needed to keep notes to keep up crap….

Not to mention waiting on paperback.

Yes. I would come back to for this 100%. I feel like fans of BDB who quit a number of books ago like I did could probably jump right in – yeah? Heck maybe you could even begin here like how so many spin-off series go…

This is great news, as I brace myself for the next BDB book where I only want to read about Throe and Layla, and will get a billion pages of not them.

WORD to Pamela – I hate getting thrown off the Xcor and Layla storyline. This is really exciting news from Ward. I’ll be happy to see (possibly?) some shorter length books come out if she’s going back to the classic PNR. I love the series, but sometimes it’s a bit too much story to process all at once.

I think FNUG is pseudo-military slang for Fuckin’ New Guy. Pronounced “fuh-NOO-ghee.”

Sounds like JRW has a lot going on — isn’t she launching a non-PNR contemp line this year too? Bourbon Kings?

Anyhoo, I’ll try ’em! I’m still reading BDB and Butch was my favorite book, so what the hell.

Oh this is the best news Mandi!! The past couples books I haven’t read because of all the many plots. Her first books in the series are my favorite, because they focus on one couple. So excited that she is going back to it.
