Review: Guilty Pleasures and The Pleasure Principle by Jane O’Reilly

February 12, 2015 by Mandi Leave a Comment

Jane O’Reilly writes very erotic novellas, and she often times reminds me of Charlotte Stein. I think if she had longer to tell her story, I would really fall for her voice (I think both of these stories are less than 100 pages). The sex is hot, yet I need a little more time to really engage with her characters. If you are looking for quick, very steamy reads, she might just be the author for you. The following two novellas can be read as standalones.

My favorite of hers is Indecent…Exposure – I did a Smex Scene Sunday post on it last year.

Guilty Pleasures

Architect Tasha has to work harder and longer to be taken seriously by her sexist boss. No wonder she feels like a pressure cooker ready to explode!

But working late every night Tasha has found some very creative ways to relieve that pressure once her co-workers have left for the day. Far from taking orders – in her steamy fantasies Tasha is the one issuing instructions and her fellow (smuggest!) architect Ethan Hall has to do her bidding!

Then one night, Ethan catches Tasha in the act. Tasha’s sure Ethan will use the discovery to sink her career so she’s stunned, then thrilled, when he promises to make her secret fantasies a red-hot reality…

Oh Tasha. She discovers the thrill of masturbating in her office – the forbidden excitement that someone could come in, and it really gets her off. One evening – Ethan catches her. On the outside Ethan is stuffy and uptight. Tasha is so embarrassed she rushes home and doesn’t know what to do with herself. The next day at work, Ethan asks her into his office. Uh oh – Tasha is going to be in trouble. OR IS SHE? Spoiler – she isn’t! Hot sex happens instead – that dirty, dirty Ethan.

I liked Tasha – she is a ball of stress and hormones. I don’t know why there has to be a declaration of love in a story like this – very forced – but fun, dirty read.

Pleasure Principle

When it comes to sex, shy and awkward Verity is as reluctant as a virgin. So imagine her horror and shame when her ex reveals her inadequacies to the internet? To prove that she’s not frigid, as claimed, she’ll sleep with the very next man she sees!

So when her boss, Cal Bailey, a man completely confident in his own sexiness, invites her to one of his legendary parties Verity leaps at the chance. She gets Cal right where she wants him but at the crucial moment her insecurities take over, leaving Cal confused and her frustrated!

Verity, convinced she can’t do it, is set for rejection again but Cal is a sexpert and he’s determined to turn Verity’s pain into her ultimate pleasure..

I didn’t like this one quite as much. Verity has such self-esteem problems after her boyfriend shames her online. Cal is very sexually forward and aggressive. He hosts big orgy house parties all the time (Ethan takes Tasha to one in Guilty Pleasures). Cal meets Verity and finds out she has never had an orgasm and he makes it his mission to give her one. Verity is nervous and a bit awkward as Cal tries to show her pleasure. I didn’t find the sex scenes as sexy as Guilty Pleasure. I just didn’t like these characters as much.
