News from Mandi: I was disappointed in Once and Always by Julia Harper aka Elizabeth Hoyt’s new contemporary. I felt like the book couldn’t decide if it wanted to be a cozy contemporary or a crazy hi-jinx book – and it flopped around somewhere in the middle. Too much russian mafia stuff and not enough relationship stuff. I also had a hard time warming up the heroine. Review coming on Monday.
I DNF’d At Wolf Ranch by Jennifer Ryan. What starts with the heroine witnessing her sister’s murder ends with her fleeing to Montana. I never got on board with her reaction and felt the going to Montana part was a little off. I only read about 50 pages so maybe things turn around.
I tried Breaching His Defenses by Allyson Lindt because the heroine is a computer geek/genius and that appealed to me. But this one is so predictable and I just didn’t like it. Review coming.
Vampires Never Cry Wolf by Sara Humphreys is a cute paranormal romance. I have never read this author before – I could have used some more action and more showing of how violetn vamps and wolves can be instead of telling – but it’s lighthearted with a sexy romance. Review coming.
Today I start Dead Heat by Patricia Briggs – one of my favorite urban fantasy series. I’m also listening to The Martian by Andy Weir (not a romance) and things are getting intense!!! Must seek out household chores today so I can put my ear buds in and listen :)
News from Tori: What have I read this week? Not a lot. It’s cold and I don’t function well in the cold. I’ve also had a cold so my week has consisted of a lot of whining, hacking, sneezing, and sleeping.
Soulbound by Kristen Callihan was a delight in that we finally get Adam’s story and a conclusion to a long running storyline. Review to come. A surprise makes the romance even more delish as Callihan’s dry humor and action packed plotlines shine through. I can only hope Sin’s story is next.
The Tempting of Thomas Carrick by Stephanie Laurens was a disappointment to me. I love Laurens’ Cynster family but I really felt this romance was missing the spark and enthusiasm that the series usually carries in abundance. Review to come.
Deep by Kylie Scott was a enjoyable read though I had some issues with the story overall. Review to come.
Summer Devon’s Releasing The Shifter is a short PNR novella, third in her Solitary Shifters series. Review to appear in May issue of RT Book Review Magazine.
This weekend is a hodgepodge of reading as I race to catch up with my reviews.
