And just to throw it in because as I’m writing this post, JR Ward posted her new cover for Blood Kiss, which is book one in her new BDB Spin-off series:
Paradise, blooded daughter of the king’s First Advisor, is ready to break free from the restrictive life of an aristocratic female. Her strategy? Join the Black Dagger Brotherhood’s training center program and learn to fight for herself, think for herself…be herself. It’s a good plan, until everything goes wrong. The schooling is unfathomably difficult, the other recruits feel more like enemies than allies, and it’s very clear that the Brother in charge, Butch O’Neal, a.k.a. the Dhestroyer, is having serious problems in his own life.
And that’s before she falls in love with a fellow classmate. Craeg, a common civilian, is nothing her father would ever want for her, but everything she could ask for in a male. As an act of violence threatens to tear apart the entire program, and the erotic pull between them grows irresistible, Paradise is tested in ways she never anticipated–and left wondering whether she’s strong enough to claim her own power…on the field, and off.
Are we worried Butch is getting a storyline? I love Butch, but is this going to turn into BDB all over again with the 20 different things happening in each book?
That aside, dying for this book. I’m ready for some BDB action! Kindle

Not too long ago I read Dark Lover…for like the hmm, eleventieth time. And it struck me that even being the first book of the series it was perfect. So simple and easy, yet so compelling and interesting. I agree the series has gotten a LOT complex and confusing at times. A necessary evil I suppose when a series goes on for more than ten books. That said, I still love the BDB and I’m excited to see it kept alive with this new spin-off.

So. The first thing I thought (RE: Ward) is Wha??? Names are not Pharadise and Crheag?
heh heh *snarky*
My chief concern is that she is going to bash me in the head with pop culture references and end the bludgeoning with a ridiculous overuse of “hip” slang. *shudders*
What made me bleary eyed with glee when this was first announced was that it felt like my reading-purist wet dream. I agree with Deb, books were perfection. There was a formula and dammit I loved it. The multiple story lines never bugged me, as long as my fav couple was not overshadowed too badly I was game. I fear I am not “dying” for the Shadows book as I have not fully bought into Trez and iAm as heroes but that is neither here nor there. I am bouncing on my chair for Blood Kiss and hope it gives me nostalgia out of my ears!

PS- and mainly just because I am feeling gripey in general- I totally feel like Throe got the shit end of the stick. Layla was totally supposed to be his female!!!

I love BDB books but that being said….its starting to resemble Game of Thrones with 4-5 plot threads at once with about 30 different characters. I would rather she scaled back the plot lines per book. I’m not suggesting she kill anybody off ( Ala George Martin) but I don’t HAVE to hear about every single character in every book. If she does a book centered on Throe (which she should!), I don’t mind if a few of the brothers are “off stage” for that book. It would really help tighten the story line and return to the more focused book style of the early stories.

I’m a huge fan of BDB. I came to the series way late in.
As in I’ve just read the first 10 books…I enjoy the multiple story lines, it’s so rare to have an author who is willing to dip back into the lives of old characters (i.e. V & Jane’s side story in Lover Unleashed). It’s nearer to RL. Why should it be a perfect ending for the couple just because they are together. No real relationship is ever that easy.
I agree, at times, the slang can be very distracting. I’m not an American, so for me when I read a word I don’t get, it means putting the book down and jumping onto Google.
I’m looking forward to the new series, it’ll be nice to see the Training Center back up and running. Cannot wait!
