Your grandpa needs help in his bakery and you are a pastry chef and cake artist. He needs hundreds of cupcakes for a special school event – no problem. Well, maybe a slight problem. Your grandparents also want you to make a wedding cake for not just anyone. It’s for your ex-boyfriend and your sister, both of whom you’ve avoided since high school when she was caught making out with him.
What’s Annie Cookie to do? Maybe flirt a bit and see where the new found crush on your ex’s little brother Cade (who is not so little anymore) goes? Have a bit of fun and reunite with people you’ve left behind? Be reminded of what crazy jealous people your sisters can be? Just maybe something sweet can be found here…
This was a cute story, and a quick read. It was easy to see why Annie had made her choices, and it was really nice to see that she has a clear vision career wise of where she wants to go and why. Annie’s relationship with her sisters is complicated, and that was well explained too. Annie wasn’t unhappy in her current life, she doesn’t need small town salvation or the love of a good man to make her whole.
Finding those things were just icing on her designer cake.
Cade is a sweet small town guy – easy to see why Annie would fall for him and why he would had such a crush on this girl all those years ago. He’s not particularly unique or memorable which was disappointing, but he’s a standard sweet romance leading man and sometimes that is a nice thing to read with all the bad boys and tortured/emo guys around romance land these days.
The drama and resolutions were all a bit over the top for my taste, and the length of this story (about a week) combined with too many things going on left it all a bit unsatisfying for me. That said if you are reading this review and thinking that the set-up of this story appeals to you then I believe you’ll really enjoy it.
For me there was too much over the top sister drama, too many big misunderstandings, and the road to happily ever after was way too fast and full of details that left me unsatisfied overall. There was no one big problem or mistake here, I think a few less overly dramatic details and a little more character development and I would have liked it a lot more.
