“Lord Luvington is a notorious rake who found himself in need of an upstanding wife. If not for his circumstances, he would never have tried courting me. I think it serves me best to remember that.”
Lord Julian Carrington, Maequess of Luvington was not a respectable man nor did Lady Sarah Roseington want anything to do with him. Why does he want to dance with her, and why does he keep seeking her out?
The truth is, Lord Julian must marry before the end of the month or be cut off, and he’s taken a fancy to the very proper Lady Sarah. As he courts her and tries to win her attentions she does her best to ignore the growing feelings she has towards him.
This is a very short read, and as you can imagine quite predictable. Given the length of the story I would have liked the supporting characters (such as parents) to have a much smaller role, and I would have liked the drama at the end to be cut altogether. Had this pair been put together and had we been allowed to see more romance develop between them I believe the story would have been stronger given the short length.
Lord Luvington is a romantic – and I loved that we got to see a leading man who is falling in love way before the lady. I also liked how proper and poised Lady Sarah was – except I thought her reactions against Julian were way too strong given the circumstances.
Overall this author has a nice voice and this was a perfect summer day read. Light, fast, and it brought a smile to my face. If you want to see a courtship of necessity type historical romance you might enjoy it quite a bit.
