News from Mandi: I started the week with DNFing The Espionage Effect by Kat Bastion. A romantic suspense – it just fell flat for me. The romance was not working nor did the suspense play out well.
Focus on Me by Megan Erickson is an excellent m/m road trip romance. I adored it. Sweet, deep (it deals with depression) and just a great overall story. I’ll be reviewing next week.
I’m currently reading Playing with Trouble by Chantel Cleeton and it’s a student/professor romance. And I’m finding it duuuurty. I’ll report back.
News from Tori:
The Ones We Trust by Kimberly Belle is a complex and thought provoking drama that focuses on family, loyalty, and trust when a journalist who is seeking the truth behind a soldier’s death learns her family may be involved in the cover up. Belle proves in here she is definitely no one trick pony. Review to come.
Brenda Novak’s The Secret Sister is a highly anticipated romantic thriller that was pleasant but didn’t blow me away. Well written and engaging up to a certain point, I found the first half dragged and the characterization was a little cold though it picks up speed once the mystery is revealed. Review to come.
The Hotter You Burn by Gena Showalter was so much fun to read. Beck and Harlow have the most amazing chemistry and banter that you will cheer their romance from first meeting. A fun fast read that will hold you hostage till the end. Review to come.
Falling Under by Lauren Dane The second installment in Dane’s Ink and Chrome series has everything you would expect and hope from Dane. A hawt man and smart heroine, plenty of steamy sexscenes, laughter, and a well plotted romance but there was something off about it. I will have to think on this one.
Magic Shifts by Ilona Andrews With each new installment I always say THIS IS THEIR BEST ONE YET but in all honesty, for me it was. There was absolutely nothing about this book I didn’t like. The arc continues to expand, the main characters are growing and shifting their boundaries, and we are seeing more interaction with previously thought to be secondary characters. The perfect blend of action, thrills, chills, and laughter kept me firmly engaged till the end. I loved it. Review to come.
This weekend I will be reading Chloe Neill’s The Veil and Hannah Howell’s If He’s Noble.

Oh no, Tori! I’ve been looking forward to Dane’s next Ink & Chrome book. Don’t tell me there’s something amiss! I really liked Opening Up.

I really can’t explain it. It’s something I can’t quite put my finger on. I’m going to read it again to see if it was just me.
