July Mini Reviews
Smexy’s Top Ten
News from Mandi: Taking the Heat by Victoria Dahl is such a nice, sexy contemporary. The hero is a GOOD GUY hero. Decent. Bearded. Librarian. Sexy. Mountain Climber. Good with his….mouth. Heroine wants to try new things. I liked her a lot. Review coming.
Magic Shifts by Ilona Andrews is excellent – as usual. These authors – I just can’t. They come through every time with an excellent story – the romance, the giggles, the violent, weird action. The best. Joint review with Tori coming.
Trouble on Tap by Avery Flynn did not work for me. Lack of courtship and romance. Hot sex though.
Luminous by AE Ash is a great short story (see above for review). The hero is a fallen star. Very cool story.
Next up for me is Spun by Shyla Colt and Break Your Heart by Rhonda Helms.
News From Tori:
All Wound Up by Jaci Burton-the 10th installment in Burton’s sports themed romance contemporary series brings us a fast and easy going romance between two career minded individuals who manage to find love and laughter in between their busy schedules.
The Veil by Chloe Neill–A strong beginning to a new Urban Fantasy series that follows a young lady whose magical ability spells incarceration and possible death unless she can learn to manage it before her time runs out. Add in some suspense, conflict, and a possible romance and Neill has the potential for another winner.
Tough Love by Lori Foster–DNF. I am not a fan of ridiculous melodramatic heroines who meddle and manipulate the people around her to get her way. Also not a fan of the characterization that because she so dang “ awesomesauce”, everyone automatically forgives her.
Dare to Rock by Carly Phillips–The 7th installment in a sibling based series, this steamy second chance romance reconnects a rock star with the woman he left behind. The romance moves fast once they reconnect with little emotional background. A small suspense conflict helps to round out the story.
Always A Temptress by Eileen Dreyer–Oh, the heartbreak. Dreyer isn’t one for writing an easy romances and this story is no exception. The 3rd installment in her Drake’s Rakes series gives us Kate and Harry’s story and what a story it is. Betrayal and deception are the cornerstones on which this couple try to reconcile the pain and hardship they have caused one another after learning of the lies told to them by those they trusted most. Bring the kleenex, you’ll need it.
This weekend I am reading Dark Ascension by M.L. Brennan.
