I thought I’d try the first book in this new motorcycle club romance series to see if the culture was something that I would enjoy. I didn’t enjoy. Nevada is twenty-one and the daughter of a Chaos motorcycle club member. She was brought up at the club and it runs her life. She hasn’t been able to make any of her own decisions and just wants to be free – but leaving the club proves hard. When a newer member tries to sexually assault her, Wizard comes to her rescue. Wizard is a bit older and has always seen Nevada as a kid. Nevada’s mother has been pretty absent in her life and her father is currently out of the picture, so Wizard steps in to make sure she is okay. He claims her as his old lady, and Nevada moves in with him.
Nevada is happy to have a roof over her head and a stable living situation. But – again, all choices are taken from her. She becomes Wizard’s property. I get that this is (or can be) part of the motorcycle club culture, but in this book it really feels like Nevada has no power. A lot of times, a MC hero can walk around and grab his crotch and pretend he has the power, when in reality there is a smart woman behind him who is really calling the shots. But in this one, Nevada isn’t that smart. She is weak and lets people walk all over her. It was kind of sad, her situation. So she keeps home for Wizard, she quits her job at his request and goes to school. You get the picture. I’m all for an Old Lady caring for her man – but I want her to really want to do that. I want her to have pride and happiness and contentment. I never felt like Nevada had this. She just goes from her loser father to a man who physically keeps her safe, but controls all aspects of her life.
She has a crush on Wizard and once he realizes she is an actual woman, he lusts after her too. But their romance never felt like love. The sex scenes that follow are pretty standard too.
Crazy action happens towards the end and it was too much chaotic drama. I was not a fan of the twists that come into play with Wizard’s health.
I’m passing on this motorcycle club.
