Favorite Quote: “Rachel, you’re drenched for me.”
The Manwhore series is one that initially took me by surprise. Boldly titled I had not choice but to see if it lived up to its audacity and it certainly did. The first two novels are raunchy, angsty and chock full of the feels, and I was impressed by each one. When Ms. Manwhore was announced, I was thrilled to experience a little more “ever after” with this little novella. Right away, all I could think was, look out! One of fiction’s favorite bad boy billionaires is back and Malcolm Saint has finally faced his fears and made things official with his lover, soul mate and opposite in every way fiance, Rachel. They are getting hitched ya’ll!!
Oh but I am absolutely a sucker for HEA’s and hocked up epilogues aka “.5” novellas. Katy Evans does not disappoint as the novella picks up right where Manwhore +1 leaves off, and presses on full steam ahead.
A breathy gasp escapes me when he teases my entry with his erection…
Errm, pardon me! There is so much hot sexy, raw action that I can’t help but spontaneously endorse how freaking hawt this book is – like I have a sort of smutty tourettes. Don’t mind me, really! *Fans self*
I’m shaking wetly as he towers before me and looks possessively into my eyes. he unzips my damp white skirt. With a long gentle tug, eases it off my hips and it hits the floor…my knees go weak when I hear the long, hot breath he expels as he parts the fabric. Green eyes, violent with lust…
*Shudders!* Aside from the smoldering heat factor, I also reveled in the light-heartedness and joy evident as these two love birds barreled down the aisle. In Book 1, Manwhore we met filthy rich playboy Malcolm, who had a woman for every notion or whim. He was soon brought to his knees by the quirky and independent natured, Rachel, but a big secret between them caused betrayal, broken trust and bleeding hearts. Their break up was brutal on series fans and long suffering as we were, readers were aptly rewarded in book 2, Manwhore +1 with a most passionate and emotional reunion and a squee inducing HEA. Malcolm and Rachel overcome a ton of relationship landmines to see one another as equals and cut away their own internal baggage. Living their lives in the public – unavoidable given Malcolm’s celebrity status and meddling friends (Tahoe!) further exasperated their issues and it was a welcome miracle when they got on the same page and stayed there! Ms. Manwhore is full of affectionate love, humor (sex!) and none of the “will they- won’t they” angst that juggled our emotions in the previous installments. Katy Evans is flawless at creating these characters, each flawed in their own right and making their coming together such an imperative that you are helpless but to root for them to get their act together and be together already! The one nagging bit regarded a focus on Rachel’s mother that I would have been fine with cutting in favor of even more time laying groundwork for a spin off or recycled time back into Malcolm/Rachel. And that is only if I had to nit pick, and I am not in the least inclined to rack my brain for more flaws. I much rather bask in appreciating Rachel not changing who she is at her core just to be with Malcolm and Malcolm wanting to see her fulfilled in her own right. Yes, much better!
Comedy and joy are the heart of this story and the couple’s ongoing social media and interpersonal relationship plights factor into their wedding planning making for an interesting, and easy plot. Easy Breezy or not, I am here to say right now, if Malcom’s BFF Tahoe does not get a spin off, I am going to die on the vine, literally, just wither away! He is such a commanding character and his penchant for sluts and trouble does little to mask what I know is a scarred, sensitive dude, deep down under all that chutzpah. Oh Please let him be even more emotionally unavailable and traumatized than I already believe him to be. That makes for an awesome redemption and hero story and I am convinced Evans has what it takes to pull it off authentically.
Ms. Manwhore is the novella’s novella. Short, sweet but packs a punch and leaves you satisfied, yet perfectly primed for another bite. Zany antics, super hot smexy, material and the happily ever after that Malcolm and Rachel deserve, it should not really be read alone, but it’s so cute that I am sure anyone could enjoy it and have their appetites whetted to dive into the real meat of the first two gems of the series.
