To recap this series. I loved, loved, loved book one, Blamed. I excitedly read book two, Ripped,  but I had problems with it. I think the biggest thing is that I had the hero built up in my head based on book one, and he didn’t live up to my expectations. But I went into book three, Crazed, with more of a blank slate and I really enjoyed this one. The Faraday family is a close-knit group of siblings that deal in super secret military weapons. They are spies, tech geniuses, and all around bad-asses. So when the baby of the family, Adam, gets kidnapped, they all go on high-alert

Casey Faraday has had an interesting life. Years ago, Casey was deep undercover with a Columbian drug cartel. He gained the trust of the leader, a man who goes by the name Pipe, and learned all of his work routines. When two CIA agents were kidnapped by Pipe, Casey was used to help rescue them, he faked his death, and ran back to the safety of his family. But he left much more behind. He fell in love with a woman named Ilda, whose sister was in love with Pipe. Ilda and Casey had a love affair, and were even secretly married, before he saw her crushed in a building as the CIA agent rescue was taking place. For the past four years he thought she was dead.

And for the past four years, Ilda thought Casey was dead. Oh the drama!

When Adam gets kidnapped, Casey goes back to Pipe, and very carefully weasels his way back into the cartel. Of course Pipe has a lot of questions for Casey, as he thought he was dead – but Casey is a good liar. He is determined to find and save his brother – and figure out why Pipe kidnapped him to begin with. But when he sees Ilda, alive and well – he can’t believe his eyes. She has a daughter and is Pipe’s girlfriend. More drama!

Pipe is a very powerful person in Columbia, and he has taken care of Ilda ever since her sister died. He cares for their daughter and keeps them safe. She isn’t in love with him, but she has grown accustomed to his way of life. When Casey shows up, Ilda is stunned. Her love for him has never left, and they start to rekindle their romance, all the while secretly trying to save Adam and escape themselves.

I like darker, action-packed romantic suspense books. I’m a sucker for siblings who will die for each other and who are all so talented and bad ass they don’t know what to do with themselves. The Faraday clan is super fun. It’s over the top fun – meaning – they are rich as sin, they have access to weapons the military don’t even have yet. They can travel anywhere, they have super secret spy stuff. They are all smart and gorgeous and get thrown into the worst of the worst and always come out on top. But the author makes them very likable. They may all be elite super secret people, but they still bicker as brothers and sisters. They still fight and argue. But they would do anything to save each other.

Although Casey and Ilda had already fallen in love before this book starts, the rekindled romance is done well. Ilda isn’t officially part of the spy world but she does play her part in helping bring down the cartel in this book. I feel like we get to know Casey a lot better than her, but with all of the action, I didn’t mind that so much.

Read my Smex Scene Sunday post, for a peek into their romance.
