This book is free on Amazon and it’s hard for me to pass up a tattoo artist hero, so I tried it. I liked it – I didn’t love it, but I’ll read book two in the series (there are four books out with two more coming this year).
Austin comes from a large family – like eight siblings or something. His family is very close and very important to him. He is in his late thirties and owns a tattoo parlor with his sister. They are both a bit grumpy and blunt, but it’s just how the Montgomery family works. Austin is a big guy, with a beard and lots of tattoos and his appearance is basically my candy. Across the street is a store called Eden, owned by newer person in town Sierra.
Sierra owns a boutique shop and has been trying to get the courage to walk across the street to get a tattoo for some time. Due to something that happened in her past that I don’t want to spoil too much, she has scarring on her side, and wants to get a large tattoo to cover it up. After first finding Austin quite gruff, he calms down and puts his attention on giving her the best tattoo she can imagine. He was gruff because he has a crazy ex girlfriend who likes to cause his temper to rise. He is very attracted to Sierra – and they end up together quickly.
I like Austin and his family. We meet most of them and they have nice banter and good page time together. Austin is a bit on the bossy side and likes to tell his younger sisters what to do and how to act. He is very protective and it’s cute. But having a large family means a lot of stuff is introduced. His dad finds out he has cancer. His youngest sister starts falling for the bad boy. His one sister isn’t in a great marriage. His cousin’s wife has a secret. It’s a lot and takes away from Austin and Sierra’s romance.
On top of all of the family drama, Sierra has her own drama in her life related to an ex-boyfriend. I didn’t really connect to this emotionally – it just didn’t draw me in.
There is also a big reveal/twist that comes into play in the second half of the book, causing even more drama. Oh the drama.
If you like big family romances, where you get to know everyone and their business – you might like this. Plus it’s free, so it’s easy to give it a shot. For me, there was a little too much family stuff and not enough focus on the main couple.
