News from Mandi: Most of the books I read this past week, I also posted a review for. I will say, I highly rec Not a Mistake by Amber Belldene (review above). It’s sexy, with an edgier topic. I like the author’s voice a lot.
Dissension by Stacey Berg is so, so well done. It’s a dystopian setting – the world has fallen, and The Church is trying to save humanity…but the outside citizens are getting stronger and they are not trusting the church anymore. The heroine is a Hunter for the church, she is kind of like the church’s soldier. She gets banished, and has to live among the outside citizens. The world is really amazing and the story itself is very well done. My one complaint is that it is billed as a F/F, and the romance is not prominent at all. Echo meets a woman named Lia and while they do fall in love, it’s not … displayed hardly at all in the story. There is also not really a HEA at the end. But I would still rec it to those who like dystopian settings. I’ll be posting a review this coming week.
My current audio book is Fire Touched by Patricia Briggs. Tori aready reviewed here at Smexy and loved – and I have to say, it’s definitely one of the stronger books in this series. Adam just stood up for Mercy big time in the part I listened to yesterday and I did a fist pump! Thank you, Adam! Lorelei King is the narrator and she is excellent.
Up next for me is At the Edge by Laura Griffin.
News from Tori: Nalini Singh’s Allegiance of Honor is what fans have been waiting on. A feast of literary joy as Singh begins to tighten up her world, adding new story lines and characters while tying up loose threads. Review to come.
Zel by Roxie Rivera-A spin off of the Russian Protector series. A fast likable read. The romance was weak but the storyline and various character cameos make up for that.
The Wall of Winnipeg and Me by Mariana Zapata-This humorous sports contemporary romance uses an antagonistic relationship between the hero and heroine to build a foundation for friendship and eventually romance. Lots of laughs and some bittersweet moments will keep you engaged.
Rag and Bone by K.J. Charles–A spin off of the A Charm of Magpies series gives two secondary a grand adventure filled with love, loss, sacrifice and redemption. Review to come.
The Visitor by Amanda Stevens-The long awaited fourth installment in Stevens’s Graveyard Queen series offers readers a chilling gothic horror filled with ghosts, murder, and secrets when the heroine discovers her family tree is far more twisted than she thought. Review to come.
This weekend I’m reading Sophie Jordan’s All Chained Up.
