What happens in Vegas… better stay in Vegas.

Maggie Omura has never been a gambling woman. As assistant manager of Dirty, the hottest rock band on the planet, she brings order to the lives of four crazy-ass rock stars.

But when the band lands in Vegas, a streak of bad luck lands Maggie in a bind–and in the penthouse suite, with the last man she’d ever want for a roommate.  Zane Traynor, lead singer of Dirty. Rock god. Sex god. Total nightmare for women.  And the only man who’d make Maggie a proposal so insane it just might work.

Favorite Quote: “Don’t let the door smack your ass on the way out!” Maggie called after her, then grumbled, “Wouldn’t wanna give it chlamydia.”

I liked it. I really liked it- and- I am more confused than ever.

This author has a knack for throwing you for a loop and with Dirty Like Us- believe me just when you get settled into what you think is a simple but sexy “antagonists turned lovers” tale, Diamond adds another dimension. A weird dimension that makes you go wait, what? It’s distracting and you aren’t really sure if you even like this new twist on a story you thought you had all figured out but you read on because it’s a really cool story nevertheless.

This encapsulates Dirty Like Us for me spot on. It is a cool, white-hot, sexy little novella and I liked it- but I don’t understand the choices these characters make- specifically a huge, life changing choice that makes their contentious relationship more bizarre than ever.  More so, the reasoning behind their choice is way too flimsy and doesn’t really work for me.  Regardless, if I suspend reality enough, I’m able to move past the “whys” and enjoy the fall out of the “WHAT!?!”

Along with their mutual attraction, Maggie is dealing with some unfortunate daddy issues that I thought were smartly woven into the story.  Maggie and Zane are poised to blow. Zane is the Rock sex symbol of the band Dirty and Maggie is his band’s manager and rule number 1. Don’t do the talent. Rule number two. Don’t do the talent, especially if the talent is Zane.

“Because I can’t fucking think like a sane person when you’re around and my dick is up.”

Yeah. We’d kind of established that already. But as much as I tried to pretend it didn’t happen, my pussy clenched at his words. Admittedly, it was a stupid pussy. Which was why it didn’t call the shots.

Unlike Zane’s dick, which definitely did.

It’s the last night of Dirty’s tour, and an over booked hotel and reservation error has landed Maggie and Zane in the same penthouse suite.  Both are harboring deeply seated lust and desire for one another, no way they would manage to party and get laid under the same roof – without cock blocking the other.

He [Coop] yanked the babydoll over my head and tossed it somewhere across the room as I tried really, really hard to block out the sounds of screeches and giggles from next door. I was pretty sure Coop said a bunch of nice things about how sexy I was as he kissed his way down my body, but I didn’t really hear it. Instead, I heard Zane’s laugh.

That potent, sexy-ass, full-on Viking laugh I would know anywhere, had creamed my panties enough times that I’d never be able to hear it and not get wet. It was like a goddamn Pavlovian response.

I wriggled uncomfortably as Coop ran his fingers down between my legs, skimming the lace of my thong, hyper-aware of the fact that I was more turned on by that laugh than the feel of Coop’s touch on my body.
….
I listened, but I couldn’t hear shit from next door. What kind of awkwardly quiet, polite sex were those two planning on having? What were they doing in there, right now? And how long was I gonna let this slide? According to my phone, three fucking minutes had passed since Maggie shut the door. Felt like a goddamn hour. But the longer I let this go, the worse it would be for Coop when I kicked his ass out.

The heat only rises as the story unfolds.   Maggie and Zane have delicious push- pull and tantalizing false starts, that propels the story into seriously sexy territory.  Dirty Like Us is actually a prequel to Dirty Like Me, which I reviewed, here, and first felt drawn into Zane and Maggie’s dynamic.  Reading Dirty Like Me, before this prequel, 0.5 novella, has me in a tail spin.   I went back and read all the Maggie/Zane parts in book one looking for hints and clues as to what the heck happened between them! I am quite feverishly hoping that Maggie/Zane’s book is next, I’m not sure I can take it if their story plays out piecemeal-like  in the background of another band member’s book. Plainly, I want more Zaggie and I want them now!  I know too much about them without any context and its maddening.  Well played Jaine Diamond.
