Coming up in July!
I didn’t have a new release read for this week, so let’s take a look at what I’m reading in July!
In June I read a romantic suspense/mystery book, a genre that I hadn’t read in a long time, even though I used to read them all the time. I really enjoyed it. I forgot how much fun it is to get into the nitty-gritty details of the story and try to read between the lines for clues to figure out what happened or who the bad guy was. So first up is a Mystery/Thriller by a new to me author.
Last Time I Lied by Riley Sager
Mystery Thriller
Release Date: July 3, 2018
Two Truths and a Lie. The girls played it all the time in their tiny cabin at Camp Nightingale. Vivian, Natalie, Allison, and first-time camper Emma Davis, the youngest of the group. The games ended when Emma sleepily watched the others sneak out of the cabin in the dead of night. The last she–or anyone–saw of them was Vivian closing the cabin door behind her, hushing Emma with a finger pressed to her lips.
Now a rising star in the New York art scene, Emma turns her past into paintings–massive canvases filled with dark leaves and gnarled branches that cover ghostly shapes in white dresses. The paintings catch the attention of Francesca Harris-White, the socialite and wealthy owner of Camp Nightingale. When Francesca implores her to return to the newly reopened camp as a painting instructor, Emma sees an opportunity to try to find out what really happened to her friends.
Yet it’s immediately clear that all is not right at Camp Nightingale. Already haunted by memories from fifteen years ago, Emma discovers a security camera pointed directly at her cabin, mounting mistrust from Francesca and, most disturbing of all, cryptic clues Vivian left behind about the camp’s twisted origins. As she digs deeper, Emma finds herself sorting through lies from the past while facing threats from both man and nature in the present.
And the closer she gets to the truth about Camp Nightingale, the more she realizes it may come at a deadly price.
My next choice is the 8th book in Duvall’s Immortal Guardians series. I’ve read this series since the beginning and always look forward to a new release. I’m not sure what to expect from this book. We recently had a 2-year wait between books 6 and 7 and it was a little difficult for me to remember details after that length of time. Still, I am excited to read book 8, and I’m crossing my fingers for more details on a character named Seth….as Duvall is stingy with info when it comes to him.
Awaken The Darkness by Dianne Duvall
Supernatural Mystery Thriller
Release Date: July 10, 2018
He awakens encapsulated in the dirt with no knowledge of how he came to be there. Riddled with injuries, he can remember neither his past nor who he is. Nor can he remember what he is. But surely no mortal man could survive being buried deep beneath the earth. All he knows with certainty is that the soothing voice and presence of the woman moving around above enables him to endure the agony of his wounds. And he will do whatever it takes to be with her.
When Susan first sees the old two-story house for sale, such warmth and longing fill her that—against all reason—she makes an offer. It will take years of hard work and money she frankly doesn’t have to fix up the place. So she can’t explain why she bought it. She also can’t explain what compels her to spend hours one night, digging in the basement until she unearths a man. A man who still lives and breathes despite having been buried alive. A man whose intense brown eyes glow amber with pain, declaring him far more than ordinary. Susan knows she should keep her distance. He has no memory and possesses gifts that would make most fear him. But as the two work together to unravel the mystery of his past, she finds herself drawn in by his teasing nature and tender touch. So much so that she loses her heart to him even as they find themselves hunted by unknown enemies who are ruthless in their quest to capture them.
Lastly, I’m excited to read another new to me author. I’m not sure why I haven’t read this author before. This blurb pulled me in and I’m expecting an emotion-filled ride.
All Your Perfects by Colleen Hoover
Women’s Fiction
Release date: July 17, 2018
Quinn and Graham’s perfect love is threatened by their imperfect marriage. The memories, mistakes, and secrets that they have built up over the years are now tearing them apart. The one thing that could save them might also be the very thing that pushes their marriage beyond the point of repair.
All Your Perfects is a profound novel about a damaged couple whose potential future hinges on promises made in the past. This is a heartbreaking page-turner that asks: Can a resounding love with a perfect beginning survive a lifetime between two imperfect people?
Coming up: I have been listening to audiobooks more and have discovered Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward. This duo writes fun and sexy stories that I am loving!!! I’ll share my favorites in July!

Hey! I feel like I’m all over the place with the genres. Definitely outside my usual with the mystery/thriller for sure.
