*sings* Sweatpants, hair tied, chillin’ with no make-up on. That’s when you’re the prettiest. I hope that you don’t take
it wrong… – Hip Hop/Pop juggernaut, Drake
Sweatpants at Tiffanie’s was on my TBR list a couple of weeks ago and I’m so pleased I made time to read it. I was soooo intrigued with this novel when I saw the cover and title. I then read the blurb and was sold! When I started reading it and read the opening line. I was a goner. This book is all the funny, swoony and sexy romantic things!
Tiffanie Trent is not having a great week. Gavin, her boyfriend, has dumped her unceremoniously on their tenth anniversary, leaving her heartbroken and homeless.
Frank Black, the owner of Blackie’s boxing gym and where Tiff has been book-keeper for the last decade, has dropped dead. He’s not having a great week either.
And if that wasn’t enough, Mike ‘The Assassin’ Fellner, boxer of international fame and Tiff’s first love, is back in town and more gorgeous than ever. Tiff can’t seem to go anywhere without bumping into his biceps.
When she discovers Blackie has left her the gym, Tiff, with her saggy trackies and supermarket trainers, is certain she’ll fail. Can Tiff step up and roll with the punches, or will she be down and out at the first round?
The Swoon!
“…Mike there’s something you need to know about us. This,’ she waggled a finger between them, ‘isn’t a nostalgia-fest for me. I’m not in love with the teen Mikey. And you aren’t competing with ten years of someone else. This is new to me. I’m in love with the you who came back; older, smarter, wiser, differently handsome you.’
His wonky nose twitched.
‘The Mike who gives me straight advice, who brings me my phone in the middle of the night, who sits by my hospital bedside. That Mike. ‘That’s the same Mike who doesn’t know what he wants to do with his retirement,’ Tiff continued and his brow creased.
‘No, don’t look embarrassed Mike, it’s okay not to be sure, to try and also to fail, but I want to be there with that Mike. I want to support you and be your cheerleader. And if you’re across the ocean doing it, we’ll work something out; there’s flights, there’s skype. Your future might not be reliable, but you are.’
His eyes were glistening. ‘Why d’you tell me to go?’
‘Because I want you to have the best in life, Mike. The opportunity is too good to pass up and when you asked my advice I almost bit your hand off to stay, but it felt selfish. I asked myself what Nanna and Blackie would have done. And they’d already done it. They showed me the way.’
The Wam-Bam-Kiss-Me-More- Ma’am!!
‘Tiff?’ Mike asked gently, drawing away from her belly and rising to look up at her. He brushed an errant twist of hair way from her cheek. ‘Tiff, stop. Breathe.’ Running his thumb along her collar bone, his eyes darted between hers. ‘Relax. It’s me. Mikey. Remember?’
‘I’m nervous…’
‘Don’t be nervous, Angel. It’s just me.’ His hushed tone as he spoke between his kisses to the base of her throat and up to her ear was intoxicating. ‘You remember me, don’t you? Two thrusts, a grunt and we’re done.’
She snapped back, rather less spellbound. Then she saw his smirk spread wide across his face and she slapped his arm. Her hand bounced off the solid muscle. ‘Don’t joke about it.’ Actually, she was glad he was joking; she was anticipating more. Much much more…
Their noses only a few inches apart, Tiff suddenly became uber-aware of their close proximity. The concealed space and shadows under the ring created a far more intimate atmosphere than she’d realised at first and it left her supremely dry-mouthed. He held her gaze and she couldn’t drag her eyes away from his face. Seeing it again so close up, brought a mix of emotions rushing back, not least what Shelby called ‘rampaging lust’. Clenching everything, she tried to keep it under control. Some things however couldn’t be hidden. Encouraged by the dilation of her pupils, Mike slowly rolled the remaining distance until his lips tentatively touched hers. The small moan that escaped her was like a starting pistol. Within seconds hands were sliding up bodies, in each other’s hair, touching faces as if regaining the years they’d missed and confirming this was really happening. Tiff arched into Mike’s body as he wrapped his arm around her waist and pulled her in. Her breathing was rapid, her heart was banging in her chest, her blood was hammering in her ears. She couldn’t think of having felt like this before. In fact, she couldn’t think at all.
