Smexy’s October TBR

October 2, 2019 by Angela 3 Comments

Angela: I actually have a few more, but by the time this posts I’ll have already reviewed them. Look for reviews for The Library of the Unwritten, Aurora Blazing, and The Twisted Ones. They all release on 10/1 and were solid, well written reads.

Sharpest Sting by Jennifer Estep 10/8– Ms. Estep is self- publishing her Gin Blanco, Elemental Assassins series now and I’m always afraid I’ll miss the next release. This is book #18 and I’m eager to find out what Gin, Owen, the gang are up to now.

Faker by Sarah Smith 10/8– Office co-workers forced to work together on a construction project and they fall in lust and love? Yes, please.

How Rory Thorne Destroyed the Multiverse by K. Eason 10/8– I’m actually SUPER excited for this one. Just read how this blurb ends:

How Rory Thorne Destroyed the Multiverse is a feminist reimagining of familiar fairytale tropes and a story of resistance and self-determination—how small acts of rebellion can lead a princess to not just save herself, but change the course of history.

Lush Money by Angelina M. Lopez 10/14– I mean….

A marriage of convenience and three nights a month.

That’s all the sultry, self-made billionaire wants from the impoverished prince.

And at the end of the year, she’ll grant him his divorce…with a settlement large enough to save his beloved kingdom.

Twice in a Blue Moon by Christina Lauren 10/22– I love Christina Lauren and their newest is a second chance romance. Second chance happens to be one of my favorite tropes.

This Earl of Mine by Kate Bateman 10/29– The first book in a new series features an heiress trying to outwit a scheming cousin by marrying a prisoner about to be executed, only to find out her husband is actually an undercover Bow Street Runner, who is very much still alive.

Angel in a Devil’s Arms by Julie Anne Long 10/29– I adored the first book in the series, Lady Derring Takes a Lover, and I’m very excited for Angelique’s love story and HEA.

Kini-

It’s the beginning of the month and it’s time for me to talk about the books I’ve added to my TBR and hope to read sometime soon.

September started off well for me in regards to reading but it ended with me reading books that were not ARC’s. So sorry to my TBR pile, but this mood reader needed a break. I am trying to get back on track in October.

Aurora Blazing by Jessie Mihalik 10/1. I absolutely loved Polaris Rising earlier this year. If I remember correctly, this book is a second chance at love and that is one of my favorite tropes.

The Widow of Rose House by Diana Biller 10/8. I saw someone else talking about this and it intrigued me. I don’t read a lot of historicals but sometimes I need to mix things up. It is blurbed as “effervescent Gilded Age romantic comedy”. I feel like I need to give it a try.

Lush Money by Angelina M. Lopez 10/14. I have been hearing buzz about this book for months, well at least since shortly after RWA. I heard it is super sexy and tropetastic. It’s a billionaire trope but the heroine is the billionaire. Lopez is a local to me author and she is lovely.

If Only I Could Tell You by Hannah Beckerman 10/15. This is a women’s fiction book but the blurb got me by mentioning a broken family and a secret. It might be too twisty and angsty for me, but I will at least give it a try.

Twice in a Blue Moon by Christina Lauren 10/22. I’m going to be honest, I didn’t even read the blurb when I requested this ARC. I have come to love the writing by CLo. They consistently deliver a solid story and typically mix comedy and emotion well. This is a second chance at love trope, so naturally I needed to have it.

I know I already posted this on Smart Bitches, and elsewhere, but—

LUSH MONEY looks so good! I put it on my tbr as soon as I heard about it. I’m always there for a billionaire heroine—especially self-made, not inherited or married into it. (However, someone on SBTB did comment that there are major consent issues in the book. I’m sorry to hear that because it looks so interesting: a fresh take on both billionaire and royal tropes.)

Looking at my October wish list, I see quite a bit of dark romance. I’m looking forward to the new Megan Crane Alaska Force book, but I really prefer the books she writes under her alternate name, Caitlin Crews. Crews has an October release for the Dare line, THE RISK. It’s part of a four-book series called The Billionaire’s Club, with each book written by a different author. I enjoyed the first book, Jackie Ashenden’s THE DEBT, very much.

Clare Connelly, Queen of the HP (and HP-manque) angsty melodrama, has two books due in October: THE GREEK ‘S BILLION-DOLLAR BABY and JUST THIS ONE SUMMER. You either love her style or you don’t…and I’m usually in the “love it” camp.

Willow Winters’s DESPERATE TO TOUCH is the follow-up to HARD TO LOVE. These are dark mob/crime-boss romances. Same for Natasha Knight and her COLLATERAL & DAMAGE duet. COLLATERAL was released last week—but I’m waiting to read this dark forced-marriage/mafia romance until DAMAGE is released later in October. I don’t care for cliffhangers and try to wait until all the books in a particular storyline are published before I read them.

Finally, Skye Warren’s AUDITION arrives at the end of the month. It has a beautiful “ballet shoes” cover and features secondary characters from Warren’s North Security series. The heroine is a dancer from New Orleans who apparently experienced childhood trauma related to Hurricane Katrina. The hero is equally damaged from an abusive/dysfunctional childhood. It sounds grim, but Warren generally makes this stuff work for me.

And seeing as how my girl Kati Wilde again had to postpone the release date for LOSING IT ALL (it was supposed to drop yesterday, but Amazon had taken it down and the pre-order was cancelled), I’m looking forward to eventually reading this book with the story of a couple I’ve been waiting for for, oh, three years! At this point, I feel as if Kati might be toying with me—lol!
