Angela’s Minis- Reviews for books by T. Kingfisher and Ella Maven

February 26, 2020 by Angela 4 Comments

I discovered that T. Kingfisher was releasing another book in her Temple of the White Rat world when I was putting together the new release post. To say I was excited would be an understatement, I hit that pre-order one-click button so hard. This author has quickly become one of my favorites in the fantasy genre and I will set aside everything else when I see she has a new release.

Paladin’s Grace is heavier on the romance (which I loved) than the other books set in this world. The Clockwork Boys and The Wonder Engine were the first two books I read by this author and I fell in love, they were fun and adventurous and full of laugh out loud moments. Swordheart has a lot of action and adventure, but less humor and a softer romance. Paladin’s Grace introduces Stephen, a broken paladin working at the Temple of the White Rat, just glad to be of service after the death of his god and Grace, a perfumer in the city who encounters Stephen in an alley one evening.

I really enjoy this author and Paladin’s Grace was another winner for me. The slow burn romance between Stephen and Grace was a delight. Lots of self doubt on both sides (for so many reasons) keeps them apart romantically, but they are constantly drawn together through chemistry and genuine caring for each other. The mystery kept me on my toes and I couldn’t help but keep reading to see how this couple, and their fabulous allies, would overcome the odds. The HEA was lovely.

Highly recommend this author and her entire backlist.

KINDLE * GOODREADS

While I was scrolling through Facebook last week I came across a post from Meagan Erickson where she talked about writing in a new sci-fi world under a new pen name and then there was a link to her newsletter as Ella Maven that said “would you like a copy of the prequel to the series?”. Why yes, yes I would.

The Alien’s Future is a novella length prequel to the Drixonian Warriors series and it kind of gives readers a glimpse into this new world full of horned biker gang aliens. I’ve enjoyed this author’s voice in both the contemporary romance and PNR genres in the past and was looking forward to this step into sci-fi romance.

It was pretty typical sexy alien tropey goodness. Woman gets abducted by bad aliens, good alien finds her, rescues her and decides that she is the one for him. BUT FIRST, they must fight his own gang to be together. It was a fun read and I will be reading the next book in the series that released on Monday.

Thanks for the info about The Alien’s Future. I am always up for trying something new, particularly with a free book.
