This was apparently a Pride and Prejudice retelling but those kinds of retellings completely miss me because I have no idea when they’re being done. However, I still enjoyed this bisexual contemporary love story. What worked for me was the opposite attracts personality types of Darcy, who is a reserved actuary, and Elle, who is a social media astrologist. I truly loved how different the two are!
The two start off on the wrong foot when Elle overhears Darcy bad mouthing her on their atrocious blind date but then winds up fake dating. I didn’t quite buy into the concept of why they both decided to go with the fake dating but I suspended my disbelief for romance reasons. What pulled me in so much was how believable their personalities were. Elle just fully wants to find her OTP someday and thinks it will happen, while Darcy had a horrible breakup and has walls up understandable. These are two people I’ve met IRL and could see dating and having these clashes and trying to get through their issues. The author really fully fleshed them out for me. Small details like their texting style just was the cherry on top.
But then there were other things like Darcy being extremely stressed about an actuary exam she needed to pass throughout the book – we never find out if she passes it! A friend pointed that out to me and now I can’t unsee it.
Overall, I thought this was really cute and I was invested in their HEA and am looking forward to more from this author.
