Starcrossed by Allie Therin
Magic in Manhattan Book 2
Paranormal Historical Romance
May 18, 2020 by Carina Press
Starcrossed by Allie Therin is book 2 in a 1920s set PNR with a bunch of different magical abilities. I absolutely love PNR set in different time periods so this completely worked for me. I only with there was a bit more explanation in this one to tie it to book one as there were parts where I was confused as to what was going on. I definitely did not feel that it stood on its own.
I enjoyed how this book built on Rory and Arthur’s love story and the worldbuilding as well. There were new and interesting magical abilities, as well as magical devices, which I was super interested in. I can’t wait for book 3 next year.

The Duke Effect by Sophie Jordan
Historical Romance
October 27, 2020, by Avon
I just started reading Sophie Jordan and I devoured almost her entire backlist in about 2 weeks. I was just really in the mood for historicals at that point apparently! I was really looking forward to reading a new release by her but overall this was…fine. The characters were fine. The conflict was fine. The ending felt rushed. I didn’t feel any real connection between Nora and Constantine. The best thing about this book was definitely the cover.

I don’t read many historicals, but Sophie Jordan’s contemporary Devil’s Rock series (where most of the heroes are ex-cons) was quite good.

I haven’t read that series yet! I read almost all contemporary but somehow have not gotten to her contemps lol. On my list for 2021!
