The Kickstarter for this series, Peculiar Tastes, was all over Twitter in July and August and featured a great line-up of authors writing fantasy romance with sizzle. Contributors to the Kickstarter had a choice of bundles with add-ons of great artwork and other goodies. The official release date for the series on Amazon was yesterday, so you’ll see my reviews for them this week. Here are the first two books in the series…
The Death God’s Sacrifice by Jenny Nordbak
Peculiar Tastes #1
Fantasy Romance/PNR
ARC
In order to save her sister’s life, Stheno is tasked with killing a druid sex god during Samhain before he drops the veil to open The Shadow Market. Her only way in is to pose as a sacrifice, killing him before he can work his sex magic on her. But when she is double-crossed her plans change and she finds herself in the arms of the man who she promised to kill.
This was a great start to the series, featuring a Gorgon assassin and a hot Scottish sex/death god with a soft side. Fans of monster romance will fall in love. I was pleasantly surprised to find that Stheno’s backstory mentions her other sister, Medusa. There is a bit of instalove between Stheno and her lover, but there is also a whole lot of instalust too, so I think fans won’t mind at all.
Keeping my fingers crossed that this author returns to this world in the future with stories of Stheno’s sisters.
CW- explicit sex, violence, murder of bad guys
The Demon’s Bargain by Katee Robert
Peculiar Tastes #2
Fantasy Romance/PNR
ARC
Continuing in the same world as the first book and taking readers back to The Shadow Market, The Demon’s Bargain introduces Lenora, a witch who needs the help of a demon in order to get a family heirloom back from a thieving ex-lover.
Imagine my surprise to find that the bargainer demon summoned is none other than Ramanu, from this author’s monster romance series, A Deal with a Demon. Intrigued by Lenora, Ramanu is intent on getting her to agree to a 7-year contract in order to secure his help. But when she hesitates, he does agree to accompany her to The Shadow Market for the next three days hoping to win her over.
What follows is LOTS AND LOTS of sexytimes with magical pegging, pain-with-your-pleasure orgasms, and eventually some soft feeling between two people who aren’t used to commitment.
I enjoyed it immensely and am super excited for The Kraken’s Sacrifice, the next book in the A Deal with a Demon series, coming next week. Hoping to see more Lenora and Ramanu.
CW- explicit sex, pain during sex. violence, death of the bad guy, blood
