Into the Windwracked Wilds by A. Deborah Baker
The Up and Under #3
YA Fantasy
October 24, 2022, by Tordotcom
Another great adventure in the Up and Under. I enjoy this series almost as much as this author’s Wayward Children novels.
This is the third book following along as Zib and Avery journey along the Improbable Road with their companions, Crow Girl, and Drowned Girl. This might just be their most perilous adventure yet as they find themselves being swallowed up by a prehistoric sea creature and then being flushed out into the lands of the Queen of Swords. Along the way, they meet her son Jack Daw, who may or may not be the help they need to keep from being made into monsters.
I’ve read in other reviews that this series ties in with this author’s (Seanan McGuire) Middlegame series, so now I feel like I need to move those books up on my TBR. These are short, quick reads and might just be something you would enjoy if YA fantasy is your jam.

The Unbreakable Bladesong Druid (The Guild Codex: Unveiled Book 4) by Annette Marie
Fantasy
September 23, 2022 – Self Published
I’ve mentioned in other reviews how much I enjoy this author and this Guild Codex world she’s built. I’ve scooped up each and every book on release day, but I don’t think my anticipation has ever been as high as it was for The Unbreakable Bladesong Druid. This is the culmination of all the books that have come before, bringing together characters readers have all grown to love over the years and putting them all on page to help Saber and Zak in the biggest fight of their lives.
The action picks up almost from the first page as Saber has to figure out how to get Zak out from under the control of his fae consort Lallakai. Her own fae consort Rikr is along to help her, but he has his own agenda and it doesn’t take too long for Saber to figure out his endgame. This is truly a war among the fae with Saber and Zak stuck right in the middle, trying to find a way to save humanity.
If you’re curious about the romantic relationship between Zak and Saber, I won’t go into any spoilery details, but rest assured you will be satisfied. The ending was perfect for these two and I finished this book completely satisfied.
Now that Zak’s character arc is all wrapped up, I’m still hoping for more books in this world. I know a certain head of a guild who I would be really interested in finding out more about.
