There have been several enemies to lovers, opposites attract romances in this series so far, but now here’s one that is also an “omg, we got drunk married in Vegas” combined with an “omg, we are pregnant, what are we going to to do?”
If you haven’t read the blurb yet, this is Graham and Keely’s book, brother to Ben and best friend to Gemma from The Devil You Know. They first meet while planning a wedding party for Ben and Gemma and it’s animosity at first phone call. Graham thinks Keely is an irresponsible party girl, and Keely thinks Graham is an uptight cheapskate. The sniping begins on page one, so it’s a surprise when they wake up in bed together after that first night. But Keely decides it absolutely will not happen again…
…Until she wakes up in Vegas with Graham beside her and a wedding ring on.
This is an accidental pregnancy book, which may not be everyone’s jam, and it’s not usually mine, but I fell into this story pretty quickly. Graham and Keely are complete opposites, and that does not work for them at first while they are trying to figure out how to do the parenting thing together. Keely is kind of a weird mash-up of a sunshine-zany girl, who overspends on designer clothes and handbags, and a medical doctor who is prepared to work hard to get ahead. It doesn’t take readers long to realize her party attitude is her way of living life to the fullest and in the present because of her family medical history.
Graham does come across as a preachy know-it-all at first. (He has his own past trauma, which you will find out.) He lets it be known that he never intended to have kids, but now that Keely is pregnant he is determined to be involved. He does not approve of her lifestyle, eating habits, spending habits, or messiness. He moves in with the intention of helping her out and having an active role in her pregnancy, which means these two are forced into close proximity and must learn to live with each other.
I really love this author’s ability to take her characters from enemies who hurl insults to friends who care deeply for each other. Graham and Keely slowly slide into a trusting relationship where they genuinely come to depend on each other. Their differences mesh well together, and they learn a lot about themselves and each other. The character growth is well done and watching this couple fall in love was a joy.
The Devil Gets His Due is an emotional journey, full of fun moments and smoking hot sexytimes. I think fans of this author will be overjoyed with this new release. I’m always on the lookout for a hint of which secondary character is due for their own love story next. Here’s hoping it’s Colin and that he finds his perfect match soon.
Final grade- B+
