You can thank Nick ( @theromancefiend ) on Twitter for these recs. After witnessing much love and gushing about these novellas I decided to go to the author’s website and see what all the fuss was about. So glad I did.
In Which Margo Halifax Earns Her Shocking Reputation–
Let me give you a quick rundown of the tropes this book
- Brother’s best friend
- Close Proximity
- Road Trip
- Lots and lots of the MMC pining over the FMC (He’s loved her for years)
This was a delightful read, sort of lighthearted and fun. The MMC’s internal thoughts made me smile and I loved that the FMC was wild and open and oblivious to her brother’s best friend yearning for her. Margo and Henry’s road trip comes about when Margo begs him to accompany her to Scotland to stop her twin sister from doing something reckless. There are mishaps, and shenanigans, and some super sexy scenes.
Thouroghly enjoyed.
In Which Matilda Halifax Learns the Value of Restraint-
- Another road trip!
- I wish there was only one bed
- Light BDSM elements
- Lots of consent.
- Older man/younger woman
This is a much angstier romance than the first book. The FMC, Matilda, creates scandalous drawings for a naughty pamphlet and Christian searches her out wanting to know why the men in the drawings look exactly like him. She tries to make amends, he needs her to go away since he wants her so much, but eventually she talks him into taking her to his estate as an oil painting tutor for his sister.
Both books take place simultaneously in regards to timeline, which I loved. Christian is super grumpy and everything Matilda does both annoys and fascinates him. He’s actually more annoyed by his fascination than anything else. He doesn’t WANT to enjoy her company and miss her when she’s not there, but he does. He keeps harping on being an old man to her younger woman (he’s 13 years older- 38 to 25) and he had some issues with his relationship with his deceased wife, but Matilda is no wallflower lacking in experience.
They are SO HOT TOGETHER.
I enjoyed both of these novellas so very much. Well written, fun banter, hot as hell sex scenes, and I simply adored all of the MCs. I’m excited now for her debut published romance from St. Martin’s due out next year.
Both of these novellas are available for free when you subscribe to the author’s newsletter.
