A new Immortals After Dark book! YAY! This novella is a quick fun adventure featuring Rok, a smoke demon, and a new to the series witch, Poppy.
Poppy and Rok have a history. A date which started out promising goes bad when Rok, who can be summoned by anyone he has been intimate with, suddenly disappears. Poppy waits for an hour and when he doesn’t return, she leaves and is determined to never speak to him again. It’s over. But Rok knows that he’s met his mate.
Two years later Poppy is on a mission to get rid of what she considers her curse. Right before entering the spookiest house ever, on Halloween no less, Rok appears and seems to be determined to accompany her on her quest. What follows is a thing of nightmares… literally. Poppy’s curse is that she can see what other people consider nightmares. Witches, dolls, the headless horseman, you name it. But since entering the house those nightmares, which are usually ghostlike, are all too real.
As with any Kresley Cole book, I zipped through it in record time, unable to stop reading until I got to the end. Rok and Poppy are a fabulous addition to the series. There are mentions of other beloved characters from the series, so readers will get their fix of Nix and a few others. While novella length, the story is well done and ticked all my romance loving boxes–adventure, snarkiness, sexiness, and a HEA.
I’m not more than ready for another full-length novel in this series. I don’t even care who it’s about, just give me more IAD please.
Grade- B

I agree with this review – it’s a quick, fun read, and I am very happy Kresley Cole is writing books for this series again. I’ve tried her YA and contemporary books, but they just don’t work for me the way this series does. Loved it!
