Hailey Edwards is an auto-buy for me in the Urban Fantasy genre. This world she’s created that started with the Beginner’s Guide to Necromancy series is top-notch. The Body Shop is the newest series in this interconnected world and introduces Mary Frances Talbot, Frankie to her friends, who is a Necromancer, living with her siblings and running a garage. She also leases out bodies to ghosts on the side in order to make ends meet.
This was a quick read. Mainly introducing the main characters and setting up the newest plot arc. Frankie lives with her siblings, Mary Josephine (Josie) and Mary Matthew (Matty). They are more of a family by choice, having made a life for themselves after escaping from a horrifying orphanage. Each has their own special gifts, and they are extremely loyal to each other.
The action kicks off immediately when Frankie goes to collect a body and finds herself in the middle of a murder and a huge mess. When her ex shows up, now a member of a special unit within the Savannah PD, she reluctantly agrees to help the investigation. Mainly in order to help herself and get out from under the eyes of the department. After all, her body shop on the side isn’t entirely legal. It’s when a mysterious man appears to her in the cemetery that stuff starts to turn downright weird. She’s attracted to him, but could he be the killer they’ve been searching for?
I’m super excited for this new series. As usual this author has created quirky characters, an exciting mystery, and sprinkled in just enough backstory to intrigue readers and keep them coming back for more.
