Cold Hearted by Leia Stone and Julie Hall
Fantasy Romance
May 23, 2024
I’m always looking for new fantasy romance, or rather romantasy, and this book caught my eye. A Summer Court princess, Dawn, is forced to travel through a portal tasked with killing an Ethereum Lord and bringing his black heart back home to reignite the magic in her realm to save her people. Something that has been done by every princess of the Summer Court every hundred years for as long as anyone can remember.
But this time will be different.
I enjoyed this book. There’s nothing exactly unique in the overall story arc or plot, and the characters and their relationship not unusual to the genre, but I enjoyed it, nonetheless. It’s an easy read if you enjoy this type of fantasy world–full of seelie and unseelie fae. The next several books appear to be set to feature the princesses of the other courts and Zander’s brothers, so I will be picking up at least the next book in the series.

Contemporary Romance
April 11, 2024
Pippa Grant and her sometimes ridiculous humor crack me up. At times some of the scenes are over the top, but when I need a break from serious contemporary romances and intense fantasy worlds, I often turn to her for a lighter reading experience.
This is a rugby, fake dating romance, featuring a couple who couldn’t be more different. Goldie is the woman who people gravitate toward, a former soccer player who is now a life coach with a sunshiny personality. Fletcher is the grumpy, rugby player who no one seems to like, including his teammate, Goldie’s brother. They start to “date” in order to improve his image, which in turn will bring more people to the local rugby matches and recognition to the sport in the states.
If you are a fan of this author, you’ll recognize quiet a few of the background characters. This book was fun. From Fletcher’s magnificent mustache and his purse sized dog to the crazy situations that he and Goldie get up to, just pure fun.
Craving the Heveians (6 book series) by Ella Blake
Science Fiction Romance
I meant to only read the first book in the series, as a kind of palate cleanser, in between review books and then ended up devouring the whole series in a week and immediately starting the spin-off. These are well-written, with an interesting series plot arc, capable main characters, no dubious or non-con sex scenes, and just enough balance between the sexy times and the relationship building. They aren’t super long either, coming in at about 200 pages each.
After finishing up the next two books in the spin-off series I may just hit up this author’s backlist.
