I featured the first book in the Chaos series, Chaos Station, in this post back in March. I’ve been looking forward to diving back in to this world ever since. Because ZED and FELIX and if we’re being honest, THE WHOLE CHAOS CREW! I just adore every single character introduced in the first book. I was expecting action, adventure and finding out how Zed and Felix were getting along after finding each other again. I was not expecting how emotional and gut wrenching the ride would be.
Zed’s transition from super soldier to Chaos crew member hasn’t been smooth. Not because he doesn’t want to be exactly where he is, but because the Stin poison inside his brain is slowly killing him. He is Zoning more often and his headaches are getting much worse. He knows his time is limited, he just doesn’t know how to tell Flick he’ll be leaving him again. What he doesn’t realize is the whole crew can see that he is deteriorating. They know he’s getting worse, they just don’t know how bad until Qek makes the choice to take her friends back to her home world to help him find treatment.
While I enjoyed the plot involving the Agrius introduced in book one and continued on in this installment, my main focus was Zed and his battle to stay alive. Fixer’s emotions while watching his lover slowly fade away gutted me. Totally left me choked up and afraid of what he would do if Zed were taken from him again. These two. Anyone who read the first book and in any way doubted this couple’s chemistry or love for one another, will never do so again after reading Lonely Shore. If you can make it through the scene where Zed forgets Felix’s name without choking up, well then, you are a stronger person than I am.
“Felix Ingesson.”
“I know that.” Zed whispered. “Felix Ingesson. Felix Ingesson,” How could he forget? How could he ever forget? “I’m sorry. Damn it, Flick. I’m sorry.”
Big things happen at the end and now I’m not sure exactly where these authors plan to take readers in the next installment. BUT I DON’T CARE! I want more! If you are a fan of science fiction romance make sure you put this on your TBR list. I highly recommend this series.

“Fuck you, Zed, you can. You’re not going to leave me.” Flick knelt beside the bed and grabbed him, pulling him over. His arms fastened around Zed’s torso, a cage Zed never wanted to escape. “I’ll be strong enough for the both of us. I’ll pull us through,” he whispered raggedly.
