I’m always scouring Kindle Unlimited for books in the science fiction/fantasy romance genres and occasionally I find something that I really enjoy. These are the first two books in The Ever Series, and I gobbled them up in just a few days.
They stole his crown. So, he stole their daughter…
For years Erik, the scarred king of the Ever Kingdom, has thought of nothing but vengeance against the man who killed his father and trapped him beneath the waves, making him a prisoner in his own realm.
Until his enemy’s daughter unintentionally breaks the chains on the Ever, and Erik makes her the unwitting pawn in his vicious game of revenge.
She’s innocent. He’s vicious. But he will take back what he lost, no matter the price.
Unless she steals his heart first.Welcome to the passionate world of the Ever Kingdom where pirates, sirens, and fae collide with Vikings in a dark fantasy romance between a villain and the innocent princess who holds his heart.
The first thing you should know is that while these are a fantasy romances full of different types of fae, it also reminded me a bit of those old school pirate romances. The Ever Kingdom resides across a chasm and in a world under the sea, but not. The MMC is Erik Bloodsinger, who is King of the Ever and has a grudge against the earth fae king who killed and then stole his father’s mantle during the war. The FMC, Livia, is a princess of the earth fae and once kept an imprisoned Erik company during that very same war. They are enemies, but also linked together through their past.
Lately my attention span has been short, and if a book doesn’t hold my interest within the first few chapters I end up moving on to something else. When I opened The Ever King, I was immediately caught up in this enemies to lovers romance. I was caught up in the bloodthirstiness, the different magical abilities that manifest through the voices of the Ever people, and the action scenes set on the Ever ship. The merpeople, sirens, and witches. Every character in this series is messy, and I loved it. There were times I was annoyed by the repeated use of the same endearments by two main characters, but not enough to stop reading. The plot arc, worldbuilding, and characters are compelling.
This is a two-part story, so don’t plan on just reading the first book. There is a cliffhanger that is resolved in The Ever Queen. After going through this author’s backlist, I realized that this series is actually a spin-off from The Broken Kingdom series which is a whopping nine books long. I guess that means I have to find time to fit these in between my review books so I can get the entire backstory of this world. I’ve already met the characters, and their heirs, so I’m pretty pumped about reading.
The third book in The Ever Seas series, featuring Skadi and Jonas, releases June 30th, and I will definitely be hitting that one-click button ON THE 30TH.
