This is the couple I’ve been waiting for! This series follows three friends, two witches and a human, who navigate magical society and their love lives. Toil and Trouble is the third and final book in the series and it was everything I had hoped it would be.
Tia Hightower is a powerful witch who has watched her two best friends fall in love and find happiness, supporting and helping them throughout. She’s been in love before, and was let down, now she and her ex-boyfriend Henry can barely be in the same room together without heated verbal exchanges and hex bags flying. Unfortunately, they are forced to work together after their family companies merge. When a big investment opportunity presents itself Henry and Tia must work together to win funding. After an argument they decide to settle it with a competition of sorts– which results in Henry losing all of his memories. Now they have to travel to England, to the home of the investor, and present themselves as a happy couple.
This is a second chance, fake dating, Christmas romance. Henry and Tia have been enemies for almost as long as they were lovers. Their animosity has only grown over the years, mainly due to stubbornness and miscommunication. Henry’s loss of memory gives them a second chance. He has no idea why Tia dislikes him so much, so he works hard for the details of what happened to end their relationship. Their chemistry, and forced proximity, slowly works its magic and brings them back together.
I really loved the Christmas backdrop to this second chance romance. Tia a smart and tough FMC, but her relationship burned out due to neglect and not being putting first. Henry is a sweet, lovable MMC and pursues her hard in his bid to win her back and understand what went wrong the first time. The spice level was perfect for this story, and this couple. The epilogue with all three couples was appreciated. I’ll miss this world and hope that readers see more couples from this world in the future.
Final grade- B
